993 Turbo engine??

A Revell/Italeri 993 Turbo has managed to find it's way into my stash. (I've been looking for one for years!) I'm looking to start it soon, but I'm having trouble with engine references. Italeri includes a 'facade' engine, roughly replicating what can be seen when the engine lid is open. I think it matches the kit very well- Porsche engines (when mounted in Porsches) are notoriously difficult to see, and I'm trying to learn not to detail what will not be invisible. But I really need a couple of decent pics of the rear of the engine. I've done a fairly extensive web search, but just about everything I've found are pics of heavily modded turbo setups- and I want to do a factory stock car.

There are a handfull of things I'm trying to figure out:
-The thingie over to the right of the blower face- is this an alternator or an airconditioning compressor? I'm thinking AC.

-The thingie to the left is a six point coil pack? Isn't this a twin spark unit, so shouldn't there be two?

-Is that blower fan plastic? It should have 12 blades (or 10, as Italeri indicates)?

-How is the intercooler mounted, what color is it, and how much does it obscure?

Everything else (the engine top, front, underside, tranny, etc.) is covered- so really all I need to see is what the car looks like with the engine lid lifted.

Yeah, I'd tried wading through Pelican's forums and had given up in frustration. (This thread seemed to confirm my fears that even Porsche enthusiasts don't take pics of their engines....)

But thankfully, I thought of Ebay. If all you need is a pic of the engine lid lifted, it can be a good place to look!



So, I guess the relevent answers are:

-The intercooler is semigross black, and it covers everything....

But that's where those decals go!

Oh ok, in the air cooled section people post tons of pics of their motors...I just thought others would......you think that IC is big enough???

I'm not expert on the 993TT motors (much better on earlier 911 motors), but here's what I think I know:

AC. The alternator is behind and in the center of the fan housing.

Not in this case. All but the Evo2 factory 993s were single plug; having to do with too much heat coming from the turbos, risking melting the lower plug boots.

I'm a little unsure about this, but most 911 fans were 11 blade, with some earlier variants that had as few as 5. The most common material for most of the fans I know of is magnesium. Again, I'm not as sure about the late 3.6 motors. Many of the earlier 70s and 60s racing motors modelers are used to looking at will have had fiberglass fans--just so no one gets confused, with different blade counts.

Hi. I used to own a 993TT. As you can see from the pic inthe above post, there is little engine visability. I have the same kit you have but have yet to put it together. I have noticed that the interior on the kit is off , especially for the doors. The engine on the 993TT is single spark. Blower fan is 12 blade and made of magnesium if I remember correctly, it is definitly not plastic. From factory there is a Mobile 1 and a yellow warning sticker on the face of the intercooler cover plate which are missing from the intercooler in the picture.

Let me know if you need more detail on the differences of the interior (or if you care).

Magnesium (forged, I would assume)? That must be an expensive replacement part.

The alternator inside the blower housing makes sense. The blower is an intake? I'd always assumed so, but now that I think of it I can't say why I believe that. 12 blades seems to agree with the pics I've found.

So it is a single park- but is that the proper location of the coil pack, just to the right of the fan shroud?

moosemarus, I'd certainly be curious to know the differences in the interior.
