Tamiya F50 - F50 GT1 progress

Hey all. Thought I would begin sharing some of my pics with y'all. This is the Tamiya 1:24th Ferrari F50 in mid-conversion to the doomed F50 GT1. Enjoy!

Modified and stock door panels. The modified still needs some work.

Dash modified using the decal from a spare Tamiya 1:24 Nissan R390 and a scratched flat panel dash insert.

Interior using 2 "black boxes" and the battery box from the PIAA Accord kit, Magneti Marelli decal from the Tamiya 1:20 Ferrari F189, shifter, shifter surround and seat/seat belt decal from the R390. wiring detail added with more coming. and last but not least, sheet styrene to simluate the black box & battery mounting plate.

Front end treatment is sheet styrene for the splitter, sheet styrene (Evergreen) strips for the base of the fender extensions and built up with 3M Automotive Piranha Putty.

New engine cover from sheet styrene.

Upper engine scoop was created in Sculpty first and then "heat and smash" formed in sheet styrene. I'm still working on the shape and fairing the scoop into the greenhouse.

Cockpit temporarily installed.

Stock wheels temporarily installed (I have yet to find the correct 5 spoke Speedlines I need).

Damn shame Maranello couldn't keep up with Mercedes Benz's spending. This would have been awesome to see running down Mulsanne!

Ales, here's 3 more pics of the engine cover/greenhouse area.

Refueling opening have been drilled and the fuel inlet doors scratched from thin sheet styrene.

I had to adjust the length of the twin NACA scoops and made a chisel (snapped off everything that didn't look like a chisel on a #11 blade) to create the top engine cover hinge indentions.

Just finished recreating the front lip of the engine scoop (and the scoops silhouette). The copper colored piece on the leading edge is a piece of wire, bent to the correct curvature and super glued to the lip. The yellowish/clear strip on the rear fender tops is 5 Minute Epoxy plugs created by simply sanding off the OEM rear wing supports, covering with celophane (Scotch Brand) tape and filling the hole up from the inside with the epoxy.

Nice job! I really have to credit you for this one! Good job on the overfenders. I had the same project going, but I stopped at it cause I still got some cars that I should finish before starting something totally new! I'm guessing that your not going to display the engine?

Hey, even Pman has missed a thing or two so thanks for mentioning it.

Which part?

The profile of the front splitter? Yep. It needs to more closely follow the silhouette of the front end (more curvature).

The air extractors? Yep. They need to be deeper and cut into the "V" of the front suspension cover.

The grill opening? Yep. It needs to be expaned in the horizontal plane with a lower opening and a horizontal splitter plate.

Only one brake duct? Yep. I have yet to open up the other one.

The splitter to body fairing? Yep. It needs to be molded to the body.

If you are relating to something else, please let me know!

The thing about the F50 GT1 is that this car was originally made by Ferrari, never raced and then sold (I believe it's in N.A. currently) and changes have been made by each subsequent owner. The current owner actually drives the car at the track. So on top of recreating a car that never actually competed, I'm also trying to decide what period of it's life to depict! It's enough to drive you crazy ;-)>
