Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 310B

For my tribute to the Ferrari 60th Anniversary is a Tamiya Ferrari 310B.
I will be using several aftermarket parts in this build.

Here I am doing a mockup

I cut the nose off using my Crazy Modeler PE saws

I also cut the undertray as per the Modeler's PDF file for the 310B

Thanks for looking coments welcome

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 310B

Nice start Dave. It's a pretty good kit this one (I built it when it was first released) The only thing I remember was the rear engine cover was not such a good fit at the end,so take a bit of care with it if you plan to have it closed up.Other than that it's a very nice model when complete.Best of luck with it,I'll keep checking in for your updates.

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 310B

This model was bought for me as a Christmas present this year after I asked Santa for it after seeing an excellent build of it on here from Sean. Can't wait to see this model come together. Good luck.

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 310B

Well I have made some progress on the 310B
I applied Studio 27 carbon fiber decal to the front wing

For the bulk head behind the drive I used Model Factory Hero Gold Carbon P935 added a piece of aluminum tape behind the drivers head you can see it in the reference photos on Gurney Flap for the very top I added a piece of MFH gray carbon decal P934.

I put SMS 1424 on to the side pod air intakes I cut off the black boxes I will remake them later on.

Next I did the painted the under tray plank by first sprayed 3 coats of XF-59 Desert Yellow through my airbrush. Then I used a Fan Brush I picked up from a craft store to create the grain of the wood by mixing XF-60 Dark Yellow, XF-4 Yellow Green, and XF-52 Flat Earth after that I dried brushed XF-1 Flat Black for some high lights.

Enjoy comments welcome

That wood looks amazing!! Impressive! Question: why is there a wood panel on a Formula car?

The rules require the plank to be there, it is used to control ride heigth which affects ground effect downforce. A certain amount of it must be left after a race. If the heigth of the car is set to low it will wear out too fast. The lower the car the more downforce the ground effects(venturis and diffusers) create.

Looking good so far! Are you using masking tape to make the templates for the CF decal? I ask as I can see various shapes of tape stuck to your desk, and have found it to be a good method myself.

Great work Dave... you really are improving your skills at a lightening pace. The legality plank looks super-real and the choice of different carbon fibre patterns has been very well judged. Keep it up.

Yes Captain Mark I have been using a few different types of tape to make templates. I think it's funny you ask because the other day I saw your post about the Red Bull car and looked at your photos you have on your photo bucket site. And saw how you traced the suspension arms on to the back of the decal sheet and though how cool that was and what a great idea. I was using clear 3M scotch tape it's very sticky so I would have to work some of it off in my hand before using also use Tamiya masking tape but as of late been using
the 3M blue tape painters use the stuff you get from Home Improvement Centers it has very low tack glue and peels off real easy I have destroyed the decal before when peeling off the template because it was to sticky.

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 310B

Well sorry about it being so long between updates. I work at a snails pace I working towards a turtle speed but it's not going that well for me. I have most of the engine done there are some etch parts to add and some hex bolts. The block was painted TS-30 silver leaf sprayed through my airbrush the gear box is X-31 titanium gold. I used SMS 1424 carbon fiber decals. I also put CF around the box that holds the intake trumpets’ the reference photo from the Ferrari Museum shows the 310 engine that way.

On to the suspension again everything has been painted using my airbrush need the practice. X-18 semi-gloss then I masked it off and sprayed X-32 titanium silver. The front arms where coved in MFH CF I have to do some CF to front lower arm but need to order some of the right pattern.

Enjoy thanks for looking comments welcome
