Cool In Progress: Honda Jazz with flame

It has been 2 month since I start to build this Honda Jazz from Tamiya.

The red is italian red while the flame is chrome yellow and white layered with clear orange.

I haven't decided yet which rims to use (it's between Fujimi's Sparco or Hoppin Hydros' Vortex). Let me hear your suggestion, as probably I will spray the Sparco's spoke with Alclad's. Thank's for looking, your comments, suggestions and critics are welcome. I'll do my best to keep a prompt update.

Fujimi's Sparco:

Hoppin Hydros' Vortex:

Flames and paint look great. I love the Sparcos with the black spokes. Dead sexy!

Wow!

How did you do the flames, did you use some sort of template? and I concur, the first rims are the coolest! Or dare I say the hottest.

Re: In Progress: Honda Jazz with flame

I think it's overwhelmingly voted that the sparco's need to stay! That flame job is indeed HOT! The only thing I'd suggest is to paint the lip to match the paint on the car (red). The black spokes really set it off. Besides, with those big flashy rims (which are to big by the way) it really takes your eye away from the paint job.

On the fire, you should use a semi transparent white along the edge of some of the flames, to give it some really eye popping contrast, and to add a bit more color to the flames. On the Discovery channel, the show Rides, they did a special on Mike Lavalle, and the way he did his fire on black base was to first do a really dark red and make alot of "fire" with that, then a dark yellow, followed by a lighter yellow with white highlights. Each lighter color is used more sparingly (fewer flames). This gives a real depth to the paint.

Yes, basically just like the True Fire concept, only on smaller scale.

Thanks guys for the comments!

I would like to see Alclad Magnesium on the Sparco compared to the red/black combo, I will post some pics for you guys to give me more insights. Thanks again!

Oh man,..I really want to see the Alclad's Magnesium effects on those sparco and please let me know what you think, as I don't know which better colour of rims to suit a car..runaround

Yes, I got some very useful hints on how to do the flame through a guy from another forum and he got the how-tos from Mike's DVD. He did a pretty clear description for a newbie like me, so I can get myself together and try it on cars.

Talking about highlighting by using airbrush, this is my second chance on cars after some practice with plactic scraps and I haven't got the hang of it, need a lot practice still

Re: In Progress: Honda Jazz with flame

any way you put it, man, that paint job is SICK! I have got to try it on a new mustang, or a magnum or something.

The magnesium would probably look really good on the Sparco's. However, I don't thing the red would go well with a bright spoke. Possibly a polished lip/magnesium center?

Re: In Progress: Honda Jazz with flame

I really like the paint job - the flames look almost real.
I agree with the other guys...go with the Sparco wheels!
Magnesium would sure look good and keeps the flames as an eye catcher.
