COMPLETE: My Version of Millen's 2004 GTO

This is more or less a little effort to make a curbside "close to the look" of Rhys Millen's 2004 GTO Drift ride. I saw Sean Svendson did one like this and I thought it was too cool to not build for myself. Here is the run down on details....

Tires and wheels from the Revell Tuner eclipse kit.
Sparco seats from the kit as well
Rear wing from scale auto style
All CF from SAS as well
Real aluminum exhaust.
Pro tech seat belts
Detailmaster steering wheel
Hood pins from crazy modeler
Modified suspension

looking good. To bad for that dark spot on the left rear side. Did you have a problem with the decal?

Ummmmm....... there are no decals... those are tampo printed on the pre prepainted body... you must not own one of these kits......

Thanks guys!!! The polar lights GTO kit is a pretty awful kit... this is my second attempt and a quickie to try to remedy some of its inadequecies and have a cool looking drift car at the end.....

Even if it is lipstick on a pig, it turned out great.

Is that wing still available? Looks perfect on the GTO. I saw Hobby Lobby had these GTO's on clearance for $7. Is it worth picking up?

Re: COMPLETE: My Version of Millen's 2004 GTO

Dave it looks great. Although it is a pig, I think they can look pretty good. Every time I have put one together I have made some subtle changes myself.
Once they are together something about the body doesn't look right. I just can't seem to figure out what it is.
Your drift car looks great. All the right details.
I'm eventually going to do a GTO-R myself. I've built two of these Polar Lights kits. One snapper to get familiar and then a 2006 GTO in Brazen Orange Metallic.

Chris
Dave, it's fantastic! I did a really quick build of the same model, but just threw it together w/some parts box rally wheels and lowered it. It may be a pig, but it's a fun pig to build and attempt to correct some of the basic kit flaws.

Chris, the whole car looks a bit narrow, and the hood installed on the car makes the car look "inflated", as if the hood should be a bit wider and not "puffed out", or whatever. The whole area around the headlights and leading edge of the hood just looks a bit odd, plus the fact that the leading edge of the hood never will fit snugly with the fascia, w/o some serious surgery of some kind.

My quickie drift car that looks more like an autocross car:

Re: COMPLETE: My Version of Millen's 2004 GTO

Bob, yes, I think you are right, it does look narrow. I always thought it looked a bit squashed when the front clip and hood were added. You're right though, that looks like the problem.

At any rate I have some pictures of a GTO-R that I will attempt here in the future. I look forward to building it anyway.

I just saw the purple version at Hobby Lobby. Purple and silver if memory serves right.
