I think that statement quite possibly is a huge understatement. I've never seen pics like that before.

Do ya'll think they were wearing seatbelts? Or if teh seatbelts would have helped for that matter?

I can't say that the seatbelts would have helped at that speed, other than attaching the people more securely to the larger, blacker piece of wreckage.

I'm fairly certain they weren't worn, however, because on the shirtless man abrasions and bruises would be evident. These minor scrapes/bruises/broken ribs are very common in even lower-speed crashes but are preferable to being ejected from the vehicle into a guardrail. Also something seen very frequently in SUV rollovers is that a person will be fully or partially ejected from the vehicle, which then rolls over the top of them.

This is actually a few years old. If I remember correctly, the Ferrari was racing a Corvette. As you can see, both drivers died. The Vette driver was ejected, but ended up more intact. The Ferrari was torn to shreads, and the driver with it. Seatbelt wouldn't have made any difference.

A person would be extremely lucky to survive a crash at that speed in anything short of a tank. In a light, thin, high powered sports car, your chances are next to nothing.

BTW, there should be more of a disclaimer than "ugly" on those pics. They're horrifically graphic. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be posted. It's good to show people just what can happen out there. It just needs more of a warning. Those kinds of pics can make someone physically ill.

In a tank you'd just rattle around like a marble in a tin can. I don't think you'd fare much better - the safest thing in a wreck is for the car to absorb the impact so the passengers don't.

Maybe you could survive the wreck if you were encased in a huge roll of foam.

thats pretty bad, I havent seen anyone fucked up like that in a long time...

Seat belts would defentally help, theres alot missing here, like how it happened, that kind of a crash takes alot...more than just speeding like that ie impact with something that didnt budge.

IIRC, and it's been a long time, the crash basically resulted from a chain reaction that included at least one car (a Volvo, I think... it's driver also killed) travelling in the opposite direction, lots of guard rails, and a tree (or something else large and stationary).

As far as the tank... yeah it wouldn't absorb impact as well.... but it would also take a lot more to stop or affect the momentum of a tank moving at that speed than either of those sports cars.
