GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

Yesterday I got this curious problem with my Grand Prix
the engine started, rpms went to about 1000 then dropped back to zero immediatly and the car turned off, did it a few times and it kept stalling.

I don't really know what is the problem here
Could it be my MAF sendor is defect or my EGR valve that is stuck ?
If so , how and where are locate those parts ? can it be clean?

Therefore right now my Car is a shop waiting to find out the problem
last update I had by my mechanic this afternooon was something wrong with my injectors . He will give me more update by Monday.

Could it be relate to anti-Thief or pass-key?
Should I change my Gas Filter ?
I'm really confuse can somone help me out here !!
I hope you guys can put me in the right path in order to solve this problem

Thanks in advance

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

It would help to post the year and engine your Grand Prix is/has. Your profile shows a 2001 GP, but is it a 3.1, 3.8, or 3.8 supercharged?

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

Hi there

Sorry for the lack of information
I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT 3.8L
with about 133 000KM

Waiting for feedbacks from anyone who encounter this problems before

Thanks in advance

Nota:
I think I do have the bad-Fuel Pump Resistor symptoms
could it be?

Your GT does not have a fuel pump resistor so you can rule that out.

Start with the easy first....fuel filter. If that doesn't help then run a fuel pressure check at the front fuel injector rail Schrader valve to see if in specs so you can check the fuel pump. Also, you can check the operation of the fuel pump relay.

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

I'll be interested to here what you find out. I have an 04 GT and sometimes when I start it the engine turns over, then kills right away. If I give it a little bit of gas when I turn it over everything works fine. It's never caused me a problem, so I haven't done anything to fix it.

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

I already check my MAF sensor and It seems very clean witout any dirt on it,
I disconnect my MAF sensor and the problems still occurs.
is there a way to check if it's working fine ?

Last september I did a fuel injector clean up.

I do not recall if I already change my fuel filter

Can it be a faulty Fuel Pump?

How can I test my fuel Pump Relay if its still good?

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

At this point since the car is out of your hands, trust the mechanic.

I'm assuming that you have a good mechanic and he has already checked the fuel pump as he went along troubleshooting your problem and came to the preliminary conclusion that the car has a problem with its injectors.

Theoretically, the mechanic should have already ruled out fuel pump relay to reach his diagnosis.

As far as the pump relay, one way to check it:
1. Open the trunk lid and pull the carpet from the back of the rear seat to expose the fuel pump.
2. Pull down the backseat armrest and open the access panel to the trunk.
3. Disconnect the connector at the fuel pump.
4. Put the ignition switch in the run position.
5. Reach though the trunk access hole, use a volt meter, check for 12 vdc at the connector. If it's there, relay is good. If not, check the fuse under the hood that drives the relay to be sure its good and then question the relay. BTW the relay cost me $15 at Kragens.

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

I need help, any suggestions, any ideas, any feedback from all you experts in this GT forums
Please !!

Hi
It's still me, with the same problems for two days in a row.
I'm starting running out of ideas in what is causing this stalling problems.

So far my mechanic already check those following points :

Fuel Pump --> Status OK
Fuel Preesure --> Status OK
Fuse Pump---> Status OK
Anti-Thief System --> Check OK
Injector --> seems to be ok as per my mechanic

MAF Sensor --> Changed without succes.
TPS--> Not seem the clear the problem.

What next change my internal computer ?!?!

I don't know where to find help, could it be my mechanic is not up to to solve this problem? or i'm Paranoid ?

I love this car , but now it start to be a pain in the a&* !!
I need my car to leave for vancation

Cheer

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

Makes me wonder if you have a bad crank position sensor CKPS). Use the search function in this forum and read up on it. Like the MAF & MAP sensors, it can become flaky causing intermittent stalls and not turn on your SES light. RichTazz and Bob N. have written a bit about the CKPS in this forum.
Question:

Have you taken the car to a GM dealer and have their mechanics hook up their diagnostic equipment to your PCM? The dealer can see frame by how your car is running...

Hi there

Eventualy no I did not Bring to GM dealer.
My mechanic does almost all of the time GM Cars
and its close to my place.

I was reading before on some topic concerning the idle Air Controller
that can be faulty , can it be ? I did not think of that
by the way where is this sensor or device locate again ?
can it be the opposite side of the maf sensor ?

I give you feedback as soon i got news

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

The IAC is located on the left hand side of the throttle body towards the top. Held on by two Torx T20 screws. You can remove it to inspect and clean out any carbon build up. Clean the IAC pintle and the seat where it mounts to the throttle body with spray carb or throttle body cleaner. Also, clean out the TB bore, butterfly and the input screen.

Re: GT keep Stalling for NO particular reasons!!

My Problem was resolve by remplacing a new Fuel Pump & TPS.

Total repair cost me 600$ CAN.

No code could be retrieve for the fuel but only for the TPS after installing new Fuel Pump (I guess both parts are inter connect somehow , somewhere). MAF sensor & IAC were remplace at the same time with no extra cost
( I negociate ) because the problem wasnt there.

Anyway Ihope my story could help others with the same problem that me.

I did alot of reading in this forum in order to have a good idea in what was causing the problem.
