Question questions about 325is

i'm turning 17 in november and i already have a car but i am thinking of buying a 325is (manual) by the summer. i would like at least a 1992 and has to be stick. i only have about 10k to buy it with. i was just wondering how the handling and speed of 325is is compared to other cars, excluding ferraris, etc...no "sport" cars. a few of my friends have them and they are fast...i wouldn't be racing with it, but its good to know that i could hold my own, bragging rights. How long do they usually last mileage, i've heard 300,000!!? any other things you think i should know about owning the ultimate driving machine would be appreciated...thanks dan

my brother has an '88 325is and its real nice. very fast and handles great. he has an E30 which are lighter than E36's which you want. what you want is probably just as fast, if not faster. it probably handles just as well too. BMWs well maintained last for a long time, i dont know about 300K though. are you planning to mod it?

yeah i would like to mod it....its not a ricer car though, i would most likely just get a new system and some performance mods, perhaps, only after all the performance mods were done would be to get some type of body kit...nothing cheesy though...do you have any times...1/4 mile....top end speed type of numbers?? 0-60....i realize it isn't a race car but i do know that it has some power

P.S. those aren't your cars are they?

ya, its definitely not a ricer and i'm glad you're not planning on ricing it. what kind of performance mods are you planning? tires, suspension, engine stuff? those aren't my cars but hopefully some day i might have one of those....

Look out... if your looking for a E36, it will have alot of miles. Granted BMW's are nice cars that perform well and hold their value. Maintenance is expensive. Modifications are expensive also... usually 4x more than the more common japanese cars. Ex: A ECIS intake is $350... reprogram the chip for 300, exhaust $500. That's over $1000 and it will only get you a few HP gain. Suspension can easily be another grand. You can spend $500 just putting clear lenses on the car.

I got my 328 over a year ago and here is what I have put in it so far.
Needed 2 new rear tires when I got it - Bridgestone RE730's - $500
Replace front brake bads and rotors, new fan belt - $400
New catalytic converter - WARRANTY
Replace rear brake pads and rotors, 2 out of 4 O2 sensors needed replacing - $575
Replace third O2 sensor - $150
Oil changes/Transmission fluid changes - $100 each time
Recently (4) Toyo TS-1 Tires, mount, balance, alignment - $700

That's almost $2500 in maintenance for about 20k miles. Hopefully the car is in good shape now and I can get back to the mods. Let me know if you need any more information.

Oh... regarding the power of the 325. 192HP@5900RPMs 180ft/lbs@4700RPMs 0-60 6.7seconds 1/4 Mid 15s

Not really, I'd have to buy a reset tool, ramps, oil, filter. It's cheaper for me to pay someone to do it than spend all of the time getting that stuff, then actually doing the work myself. I used to do my own in high school and college but it's just not worth doing it myself anymore.
