Resistiance going into second gear
Okay when I shift into second ger if I have my hand pulling with any pressure towards my body when I shift to second I have pull pretty hard to get it past when feels like some blockage or sumin in the linkage but it only happens in second. Its not the transmission thats keeping it from going in it feels like the linkage. I crawled under and looked and the bushing may be worn. It looks pretty cracked up.

My 1st to 2nd shift is the hardest. I think maybe it's just like that. Try putting in some new tranny fluid or something.

It's normal man, just happens. Try adjusting your clutch cable a little bit so the friction point is up higher, and make sure your foot is all the way to the floor when you go to second, not saying that it has to be all the way to the floor everytime but that should give a smooth shift so you can see how far you have to push it down to get it into second easy, I got mine working smooth but it still does it sometimes. good luck man

mine did that in all of my gears :P it got so bad that i had to shift to neutral, release the clutch, and go back into gear again or it wouldnt' even shift! i had to get a new clutch installed, and a new shifter bearing...

tye you can find those pieces pretty cheap, you could get a zc swap with dizzy, ecu, tranny, everything for $1000 plus install which would be another 500...pretty good deal

Well I think it is the syncros because now I relize that it isnt the shifter itself it is the transmission. The woman I bought it from said she took off in second alot.. Dont know if that would cause them to go bad and there was a few first time 5 speed drivers before me to drive it so they probably rode the clutch and shit. ---John

tranny
Haha...taking off in second a lot. Well there could be a number of things wrong with it. First of all does the clutch slip ? Check the fluid level and make sure that there is fluid in there and that its near or at the full makr and is the weather getting cold where your at ? If so than make the oil thats in the tranny is too thick, but than again after the car would warm up the stiffness of shifting would go away. I'm goin to put my money on the tranny being bad. It's common for 4th gens to eat up a tranny after some mileage. I had a 90 Si with 160,000 and the tranny would grind than i got a 91 Si with 120,000 and it was a bitch to shift from reverse to first. It all depends on how the car was driven and how well the previous owner could drive stanard. Expect to pay around $275-350 for a Si tranny with decent mileage.
