2000 Expedition EGR Valve

My 2000 Expedition failed emmissions because the check engine soon light was on. A mechanic said it needed an EGR induction cleaning & have the light reset in order to pass. Got car back, paid 250.00, passed emmissions but light came back on less than 2 days later. A friend let me use his analyzer and it shows bad EGR flow. I figured I'd replace the EGR valve seeing as the mechanic didn't. Will this fix my issue?

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Post the code number. If it is a P0401, replace the DPFE sensor first.

Smile Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Hi
I finally had a chance to re-look at the analyzer today. The code is a P0401 like you said. This may sound dumb but where is the DPFE sensor located & what does it look like?
Also...I have called at least 4 different auto parts stores(Advanced, Car Quest, etc....) and none of them has ever heard of a DPFE sensor. I looked it up on the Web and got lots of hits. Is it possibly also referred to as an EGR Valve Pressure Feedback Sensor? These guys at the auto parts stores didn't speak English too well & didn't seem too helpful.
Thanks
Lauramarfarms

Yes it is also known as an EGR pressure feedback sensor. Here is a picture of it. Just find it, unplug wiring and 2 hoses. Just make sure the hoses go back in the correct position.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Did the DPFE / EGR Pressure feedback fix work for you? I have the same error code. I changed the EGR Valve and the EGR vacuum regulator and after resetting the engine light, it came back on after a few miles????

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

I replaced the DPFE/EGR pressure feedback sensor this AM & reset the codes. The light came back on again this evening. I'd guess it was driven about 60 miles or so before it came back on. What next?

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

You may need to remove the EGR valve and look at the 2 ports under it. These will clog up with carbon and cause the code to come up. It is a time consuming project, but parts are cheap. All you will need is a gasket for valve.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Interestingly, the check engine light went off on its' own on Monday night.
It has not come back on since. I've driven 200 miles since then easily.
So I guess it is fixed for now! I will re-post here again should it come back on again w/ an EGR flow error.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Hey way2old....guess what? that Check Engine soon light has come back on once again! I checked the code and it is the same as before, EGR flow insufficient. So this weekend I will take off the EGR valve and clean those ports; I will buy a new gasket 1st!.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

uh8THECHEVY....On my 2000, if I am standing on the driver's side of the engine compartment, take off black plastic cover that sits directly on top of the motor; it should say FORD 4.6 or something on it.Right under it to the left of the EGR valve, you should see this thing(It should be facing you). Way2old posted a picture of it above in this discussion thread. I can't guarantee yours is in the same place but start there.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Oh yeah,,, you need an engine analyzer to reset the codes as far as I know.. I borrowed an inexpensive hand held one from a friend(I think he said he paid about $200.00 for it)

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Go to a place like Autozone or Pep Boys and they will read codes and erase them for you at no charge.

Re: 2000 Expedition EGR Valve

Thank you for all of the information. I have changed DPFE on my truck and reset the code. I have to take my emmission test tomorrow so I hope I have fixed my problem.

Thanks again.
