Reverse lights not working...

I have a 2001 Alero 5sp and the reverse (backup) lights are not working. I've also recently noticed I no longer have to put my car in reverse to remove the key from the ignition. I've checked the fuses (even under the hood) and they all seem to be fine. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: Reverse lights not working...

Hopefully you checked or replaced the backup lamps first.

Re: Reverse lights not working...

Not sure about Aleros with the manual 5 speed but the automatics have a switch called a transmission range switch. The manual should have a similar switch for reverse detection which also turns on the backup lamps so check the transmission for that type of electrical component. Maybe the connector is loose. Also, the switch may be located at the shifter assembly at the center console.
