Re: waste of my time?

How the fuck are we supposed to know?

Try changing her oil and cleaning her filter.

It's a car forum.

so I've kind of got the hots for a [single] co-worker of mine. Everyone tells me that I should ask her out, but I'm kinda shy about that. I've kinda hinted at it but never actually asked. I sent her a message with my phone number, and she wrote back "i don't need a b/f right now" ...I assume that the number goes in the 'trash'. however a few weeks later i start gettting text messages from her and now we talk on the phone every other day. We've hung out a few times but it never goes anywhere. I've learned a lot in the few weeks I've known her. Based on what she's said, she doesn't feel as though she's good-looking. I must disagree! Anytime someone checks her out she says "i don't know why"...

anyway...

Apparently I'm all she talks about to another co-worker. At work, it's all laughter and flirting. It's nice!

A friend of mine told her that we should go out and I played dumb on the issue. I asked her what they were talking about and she replied that it was "nothing important"...great...

I know that she is a "good girl" but she's been taken advantage of in the past. Apparently the last boyfriend just used her for sex. Now she says she doesn't need a boyfriend. Could this be because she's scared of getting hurt or is it more likely that she isn't interested???
It seems like her dad might play a role in choosing her boyfriend. He always seems to be in the area....kinda annoying!! btw, we are both in our early 20s. So, based on all this, am I wasting my time?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that after you sent her that message on your phone and she messaged you back with the 'don't need a boyfriend' comment, you two started talking a little more, which lead to the text messages?

My guess is, she knows your interested but wants to find out what kind of person you are before really agreeing to get involved. You're probably right, she probably doesn't want to get hurt again and will be as cautious as she feels is necessary until she is comfortable to date again. Fortunately for you, she seems to be warming up to you.

How long have you known her for total? Just curious.

Based on what you know about her thus far and on the fact that you've hung out a couple of times, I don't see why you shouldn't ask her out. However, you'll need to be careful about the way you ask her because you don't want to seem like "well hey, we should be boyfriend and girlfriend," but more "I want to get to know you more." Think of something that the two of you could do that you know she would enjoy and that would allow you to talk while enjoying the activity. Movies are awful first dates because you sit and watch, not talk. Try bowling or putt-putt, or go to a museum of some kind.

The only thing that would concern me is that you'd be working with her and one rule I tried to stick to while I was dating (now engaged, so it doesn't matter) is "Don't screw the crew," which basically means don't get involved with someone at work. I'm not saying it can't work, because anything can work if you go about it the right way.

Anyway, hope this was of some help.

Re: waste of my time?

/sigh

Here's what you do Romeo.

Ignore her for a few more days. Be busy working, studying, etc.

Call her up out of the blue and ask her what she's doing. If she's not doing much, ask her if she wants to do something. Go shopping, go to the zoo, whatever you think she will be interested in and is convenient.

Then, don't make it like a date. Just hang out. Get to know her.

Play mind games with her. Don't tell her everything about yourself.

Play hard to get.

as far as the whole work thing goes, don't let her get you fired or anything like that. If they say you two can't work together, they usually mean it, they don't say stuff like that just to say it. Take breaks together and what not, but when it comes to the nitty gritty of work, make sure you get your ish done.

its not so much the whole jerk thing. you just have to play the jerk card every once in a while. its the whole thing about not paying attention to them ALL the time.

i drop little one liners that will show girls that i don't care or something like that. for some reason it works. i've been told by numerous girls that i'm a "nice guy" somehow, i have seemed to get the girl i want. its a lot of trial and error, at least for me it is

That whole "I'm not speaking to you" thing is usually just a bluff. By acting apathetic in response you're calling thier bluff. That's how it works.

I've never met a girl who could keep the "not talking" act up for more than 24 hours.
