Bargain?

Hi, I'm new to the Car Audio scene, so I have a few questions.
A friend of me is buying a flat, so he's selling his sound system, and he asked me if I wanted to buy it. The system is almost brand new, and it sounds phenomenal in his car. He gave me a list of all the components, but that doesn't really tell me anything.

1 Denon DCT-Z1 deck..
1 Denon DCH-470 cd changer.
1 JL Audio 300/2 amp.
1 JL Audio 300/4 amp.
2 JL Audio 500/1 amps.
2 JL Audio 10W7-3 subs.
4 MB Quart QSD 210 component sets.
2 MB Quart QSD 213 component sets.

He said he spendt over $8000 on it, is this true?
Well, he's asking $5100, is it a good deal?

well, first, denon is one of the lower quality, main brand decks; so for 2500$, thats full retail, and thats assuming that 2500 is the real price.
And, the main thing u want to know when u spend that much money on a system, is what EXACTLY are u trying to acheive with car stereo.

i.e ( sound qaulity, installation beauty, ... BASS,..... multimedia.. , combo , etc)

The amps, components, and subs are pretty good. I cant really advise you on the deck and changer tho, as Denon products are fairly scarce around here. The only denon deck I ever saw was a tape deck I got with my 91 mazda a few yrs back. I havent even seen them for sale in a while. Anyways, IMO thats alot to spend on any setup, unless you are seriously thinking about getting into competition.

Otherwise you can definitly get a system that sounds great, but is cheaper than that. Again, im not sure of Denon decks, but it would have to be pretty frikkin amazing before id spend that much on a system.

Just my .02

maybe 2 years MAX
jl audio has been makign subss for years, and u could get a better amp for ssame price

DankiestStereo: You obviosly don't know what you are talking about, but if you think Denon makes low-quality stuff, it's fine by me.

Anyway, I bought the system today, and he is helping me installing it today. I'm probably going to build a fiberglass enclosure and amp-rack, but that has got to wait.

You sell stolen stuff?
Anyway, you know this because you are an authorized Denon dealership?
Have you ever heard a Denon deck?

no
i am authorized for US amps, authorized for pioneer, JVC, authorized for hifonics and crunch, authorized for EFX, authorized for hollywood sound labs, and authorized for MTX.
I do not sell stoeln equipment, i just dont charge full price like most people do, i dotn see that someon is going to spend 6000$ dollars, and ccharge them full retail (6000$) when i can sell them 8000$ or 9000$ worth of equipment for 6000$.
Denon does not even rrequire an authorized dealer to sell
i can get denon from distributors, to show you how good denon is
u might as well drop it, i was trying to help you out, but u just dotn get it and dotn know

The Denon DCT-1 is indeed a high quality deck that normally sells for around $2000. It is comparable in quality and design to the Nakamichi CD-700. I think the guy that is puttin down Denon is falling into the old salesman trap ...... "I sell all the good stuff, if I don't carry it - it's junk." Works on ignorant people, very bad to use on people that know better. I like to walk into a shop where people don't know me and listen to some of the B.S. they come up with, it's always useful for a good laugh.

haha
thats funny
i do sell denon
not authorized but do sell them
denon may have the dct that sells for 2000$
but with any company you spend 2000$ on a deck for, your going to have a deck that lasts longer, works better and is better
do you know what test default tracking is
no you dont
that is a test that is performed on cd players to see how well they track a scratched CD
well denon can track a 2000 micrometer track whereas Nackamichi, eclipse and JVC can track a 4000 micrometer track
thats just one thing
im done with this
laimers
