2003 Alero Check Engine Light

Hello all,

I have a 2003 Alero with a check engine light on. I have had the code scanned at Autozone and it is P0442. I have tried replacing the gas cap but has not sloved the problem. I had it reset and it stays off for about a week and then comes on. Any clues or ideas? It is the 3.4 V6. Appreciate any help?

Stacie

Welcome to AF.

The link below should explain the various evaporative emissions system faults. P0442 is a small leak detected. Could be the gas cap or most likely a leak in the evaporative emissions lines, purge solenoid, charcoal cannister, gas tank. etc.

Stacie - We have two Oldsmobiles. Unfortunately, within weeks of each other, the engine lights came on, 442 codes were discovered. What we found out was that someone was stealing our gasoline and not putting the gas caps back on tightly... THE TIMES ARE A-CHANGING ....we had to put locking gas caps on all our cars. We live in Fort Worth. linda
