It's been too long... '01 MR2 vs IS250

It's been a long, long, long time since I posted in this section with anything of my own.

For starters, if anybody remembers (doubt it) I had a 5.0 Mustang which I sold. Thank you Exxon, assholes. Anyway, I saved my money and just a few months ago I bought a 2001 MR2 Spyder. I didn't get it for performance but it gets good gas milage and looks a hell of a lot better than a Corolla, sold. So, I got the car and it's bone stock.

Anyway, last weekend I was running around with a friend and a Lexus IS250 was in front of us. He was taking his dear sweet time so I passed him. He steps on it and passes me. We did this back and forth through town until we get out of town and the road opens up. It just so happens that I was ahead of our little game of gun and pass.

The speed limit was 35 and jumps to 65 and when it jumped to 65 I saw the IS hit it and he was coming out and around me. I waited till he got right beside me and I downshifted and hit it.

40 - He comes around and I hit it and we get on it. I jump a little and we then even out.
45 - Even
55 - Even
65 - Even
75 - Even
85 - Starts to pull ahead
95 - Pulls harder, car length ahead of me
100 - Pulling hard and puts two cars and the gap just gets bigger on me so I shut down (really wish this car was a 6 speed and not a 5)

So he hits the brakes and we slow back down to around 50-55. We hit it again with the same results. I can stay with him until around 80 and he starts to pull.

We did this about three times until....

BLUE AND RED LIGHTS behind us. The IS quickly slows down, the cop gets behind him but the IS pulls over and turns around and goes the other way. The cop then gets in my lane and is coming up fast. I'm done.

Well right when he gets to me the cop switches lanes and goes flying past me. He was a county sheriff going to a wreck a couple miles down the road.

Anyway, I have no plans for the car...yet. I have to get my windshield replaced so any hope of mods will have to wait for now. I'm just going to start basic and work up. When the warrenty is up, turbo time

P.S. I do have at least one kill with this car. My neighbors cat I hit about two weeks ago.

Isn't that the corolla with the old yamaha engine that doesn't get power till like 6000rpm?

I know the reference, but nobody mentioned a AE86 era Corolla... so I was confused as to why it was mentioned.

Re: It's been too long... '01 MR2 vs IS250

Good loss. I can feel you on the power deficits of these cars. From everything i've read, there's no point at all in building up the 1ZZ motor. I'm done as far as bolt ons go (I have a cold air intake and a muffler). The cold air intake isn't on yet, but i'm not anticipating too much power from it. From what everyone says on the board, the 2ZZ motor is the way to go, so I plan on scrounging up money, until I can buy one, and have it put in with the 6 speed tranny. I probably won't happen till next year though
