Low and Mid hp

I have a 2002 Silverado with a 4.8L V8 engine and after removing my catilytic converters and putting just straight pipes I noticed a HUGE increase in top end power. But my low and midrange hp seems less or the same. I was just wondering if there was any affordable aftermarket products that could help me in the bottem end. I bought a superchips flashpak tuner and it helps, but it still seems a little sluggish.

Re: Low and Mid hp

the reason you didn't find any change in the low and mid ranges is because your cat wasn't causing much backpressure there. it was only causing restriction at higer rpm, so you only get a difference there when you remove it.

depends what you mean by affordable, what's you budget?

you could get a new cold air intake and filter for ~$140, new exhaust for ~$250 and together you'd get maybe 15hp gain.

after the basics (intake, exhaust, chip) it gets a little more expensive.

Re: Low and Mid hp

A good set of small tube headers will help. Going big would help high rpm power more at the expense of low end torque. Get a good set of small tube headers and you'll be rewarded all over the board.
