Re: what type of oil

Are you referring to viscosity or brand of oil?

Owner's manual recommends 5W-30 or 10W-30. Just about all name brand oils meet or exceed GM's requirements. I use Castrol brand.

Some Alero owners are having good luck with synthetic motor oil, however, it would depend on what mileage you have and the condition of engine seals/gaskets before switching over.

Re: what type of oil

5W-30 viscosity. lots of people are using Mobil 1 Synthetic and think its the greatest. It better be for the price. But as far as i know the 3400 has never had any sludge buildup problems and appears not to suffer from using any quality regular 5w-30 oil (ie: Quaker State, Penzoil, etc.). Just keep it changed regularily.
