Why haven't i about heard this in the news?

http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/newsom.asp
Has anyone heard about this story on the news? i haven't, now i could have missed it, but still if this was reversed and it was white people who did this to black people it would be all over the news, and Sharpton and Jackson would be screaming racism! Now i'm not saying the people who did this were racist, but i'm not saying that they aren't either, but i think we all know that if it was reversed the media would not stop talking about it and it would be a racist issue, is that not racism itself? idk i guess i'm just pissed cause its a heinous crime maybe the most i've ever heard of and its not on the media, but i know it would be if it were the other way around.

You've got a point about the hypocrisies but the sheer brutality of that crime has left me dumbfounded. That is absolutely unimaginable. But again, it is true that if that had been whites attacking blacks I'd bet that Sharpton would be telling white people that they need to raise their kids better because they're the problem children - or some bollocks along those lines.

Re: Why haven't i about heard this in the news?

The answer is provided right there in the link......There are tens of thousands of murders committed every year. Only the ones with 'entertainment value' ever make it to the national news. For every national news story there are dozens more that don't make the cut. Prime time news runs in a family timeslot and is heavily sanitised, so murders that rely on graphic violence as a point of difference have limited potential [unless they have propaganda value].

White folks kill black folks. Black folk kill white folks. None of this is really news. It seems pretty clear to me that the the quoted source used by Snopes as the start point for their investigation was written by someone with a clear agenda. Snopes merely confirms that the event happened, not that it was suppressed by the media. It's just another particularly vicious murder, with little or no marketable point of difference.

20 years ago when I moved to New Zealand, I was surprised by the depth of coverage for even the most straightforward of murders. It wasn't until I realised that pretty much every violent crime committed in NZ made it to the national news that I came to realise how fortunate I was to be living in such a civilised place. Even today, this kind of violence would be newsworthy if it happened here. I feel sadness that there are places where this kind of barbarity is commonplace enough to miss the qualifying point for newsworthyness.

As bad as this is going to sound, and I apologize upfront to those who might be offended by it, but yeah, if it were opposite then it would be considered outrageous. Revs Al and Jesse would be all over the news (like they're not already), and we'd have all kinds of "debate" over racism, and hate crimes, etc.

It's sad to see that when the opposite occurs, no one gives two shits or a fuck about it. But should hell break loose if no one casts an eye on a black man or woman, or you can insert any other ethnic background there, and there'd be a mass outcry of demand for justice to be done.

Am I saying it's right or wrong? should we be caring just as much about this case as say.... "O.J. Simpson" case? How bout "Rodney King"? I would hope that the answer to that last one should be "yeah, we should be", but in all honesty, not a lot of people want to answer that last one as "yes". Someone always has to come up and say "Well, how do you know it was those black men?" or the ever sarcastic, but clever I might add "did you actually meet them?" and of course "were you there when they supposedly committed this act?"

Just my worth!

Have you ever lived in the United States? This is certainly newsworthy here as well and this sort of barbarity is by no means common here in the states, despite what you may read elsewhere. If the vicious murders of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd rated national coverage then this one does as well. I'll call political correctness on this story as well...

I was listening to Michael Savage last week and he went on a similar tirade you brought up on this EXACT story.

He was as hot as the fire these guys should be roasted in.

This story was widely reported. Tributes videos and newsclips abound on YouTube if interested.
