first multimedia kit

Hello,

While looking for something new to set my teeth in, I came across those tiny 1/43 resinkits from renaissance, BBR, lemans miniatures. But for a first try, what are my best bets? There rather expensive for such small cars, and I have no experience with the brands, so I don't want to buy anything wrong. I'm quite fond of the Renaissance Porsche GT1:

but I'm mostly looking for general advise.. wich brands are the best value for money, wich are a to difficult for a firts build, wich brands are best avoided...

I have all the necessary tools (airbrush, dremel, mini drills,...) and have a decent amount of experience with tamiya kits....

Any help is greatly appreciated.

well MOST 1/43 are curbside, or have a one piece chassis, so engine detail is not usually something to worry about. most of the time interior and body detail is the most you'll have to worry about. unfortunately, I can't recommend any of them, but from what I've seen, if you want it to look really good, lots of photo etch is needed.

some bonuses for 1/43, not to much to paint, minute details can be overlooked, most of the time they are extremely accurate and proportionate to the 1:1 car, alot of aftermarket parts are available.

I would say that Renaissance super integral kits aren't probably the best ones to work with if you did never practice mutimedia kits.
they require a lot of cleaning work and preparation.
Keep them for later, to be sure to get the best result (especially the Porsche GT1), except if you feel enough confident, because for sure they would give an great result.


BBR kits are generaly fine, with very nice resin, simple to work with... but I don't really know more about their multimedia kits.

LM miniatures are quite egal to Renaissance, but I don't know them, I heard only good things about those kits, but they seem to be complicated too for a first multimedia kits.
(but what an incredible result once built !!)

my first try in 1:43 was a GT3 RSR from Provence Miniatures. They are not as expensive as the other ones and nice to build. You can see the finished one here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=695543

The kit comes with photo etch and white metal parts. Body is one piece resin. The wires of the interieur ar molded in but easy to remove if you like to.

I have also Renaissance and BBR kits in my to do pile. The resin casting looks a little bit better as well as the pe-parts. But you will get a very good kit for your money if you will buy a PM Kit.

Its just my but I hope it helps.

To begin I'd start with a BBR kit or a provence . BBR kits are very well engineered. Tameo are too.
On a bigger scale, try LMM.Their panoz or R8 are really easy and well thought.

right now I'm making the nissan R390 from renaissance and it has taken me 3 weeks just to get the rear bonnet to sit right on the body (baring fact I work 8 hours a day to boot)

I would say start on a easier kit that doesn't have anything that will open. Renaissance does a fanatastic job with their resin bodies

well thanks a lot for the answers. Looks I habe lots of choice if it comes to good kits.. now I absolutly haven't got a cleu wich one to choose... ;-) I've been searching on the net somewhat and it appears that BBR makes the best value for money kits.... mmm I guess I'll habe to wait until I see some in reallife. But again thanks for the tips.
