computer help

i work at conrads so today i hooked up a scan tool from snap on and the tech said all my sensors and everything is off and is jumping all over the place off the charts and ect, he said either my wiring is messed up or the computer is shot but i wanted to see what you all think as you all deal with these cars and know what is more luckly to fail, Thanks

Oh and he said the computer was reading so wrong like rpm from 700-2999 in park just idle not hitting gas also my knock sensor was going from like 4 to 18+ my tps was reading .50-2.0 without touching the gas jut everything was out of control really just wanted to add that!

i want to get this fixed friday so any pointers would be great i just wounder do i get the ingition switch or do both and computer or what??? Thanks

Re: computer help

Any other electrical gremlins like heater blower randomly dropping speeds, DIC flashing off/on, etc... If so, it could all be related to a bad ignition switch/harness assembly. If not, I'd pull the air filter assembly and inspect the PCM for water intrusion.

Re: computer help

He has a DIC problem Rich but it looks more like a serial data problem in that respect. Although it is possible I don't see where it is an ignition switch problem without any other supporting classic sysmptoms.

Are we sure this is not a problem with the scanner or an interface problem? If the sensors were that bad I suspect there would be matching driveability issues.

KR at idle. Now thats a good one.

Re: computer help

try another scanner or use generic OBDII instead of entering your vehicle specific info. If it still does it THEN start thinking hard.

Re: computer help

I asked about the other symptoms to rule the ignition switch out. You know how we don't always get all the info, just the critical stuff sometimes. Since your readings are all over, have you tried the scan tool on another vehicle to rule it out as a problem. There may be an issue with the OBD-II adaptor or harness on the scan tool.

Also, unless you have the capability to reprogram the PCM, getting a junkyard part will do you no good. PCM's are calibrated to your specific Vin #.

Re: computer help

Ok, now we are getting someplace. Make sure the 12 volts and alternator/charging system are working properly first and it is not a low voltage issue. Make sure grounds are good, cables and battery terminals. Measure 12 volts at the battery and alternator output with a DMM to verify. Based on the additional symptoms I would go for the ignition switch first and then see what is left.

Re: computer help

okay i got the ingintion switch from ed this morning as he is only 30 min away then installed it and still same problems nothing changed!

also got a dic from him and installed that well now i dont have boost gauge and still flashes 00 and low, so i hooked up my old one and same thing and even with my old one the boost is gone too, I thought that was pretty odd

so same problems and very mad i want to just sell this thing! Everything is such a bad setup in this car it semse like they slapped it together and put a nice price on it sense it had a little supercharger on it

Well any more ideas would be great i have checked wires/volts and everything looks good at all point so im lost on this!!!

computer next?

Re: computer help

I would check the battery, battery cables, body and engine grounds too. It still sounds like an electrical problem to me. If you got the ignition harness out of a salvage yard, you cannot rule that out as a possibility. It's such a common problem in these cars, I've seen them bad in cars with as few as 40K miles on them. A bad PCM would have no effect on the heater, lights, radio, or window switch.

Re: computer help

today i checked all the wires they look fine, Also insted of using the modis i used the mt2500 scanner and everything looks good with no codes, also found i left out my screen in the tb would that be the cause of the lean code? I know i used to get the code but i replaced alot of stuff sense then so i am thinking it might just be the screen!

I have zero kr in park thou the rpm range does that mean anything or do you have to drive?

Now to the abs/trac light the computer could not connect to the abs system period so i may have a problem there or could it just be a wheel hub?

My air bag lights are on also codes below what do you all think module or wires?

b1019
b1021
b1022
b1024

as for my dic i have noticed sense i hooked it up to the scanner now it works intil the car moves then just starts flashing 00 foreverything! What do you all think now?
