85 S-10 Blazer 2.8 4x4 Fuel dilvery Problem . The guy that owned the Blazer told me it just quit on him . Did'nt think it would be a big deal to fix and then turn around and sell it for a profit , but has me stumped ,originaly I pulled it home only 3 blocks , cause it would try to run but would quit right after you would start it . Well all the vacuum lines were dry rotted so I replaced them then a new fuel filter . well it will run if you keep your hand over the carb. I took the fuel line off and it pumps gas like a foot or so out of the hose when you crank on it. When you get it to run the idle is way out there and then it quits. Any iders???? What to look for and a fix ?

Possibly a massive vacuum leak? Holding your hand over the carb is choking it, so chances are its running very lean for some reason. Jet clogged, vacuum leak, cracked carb body (rare, but I've seen it) Another problem I had on a 2.8 was one of the little screws that holds the throttle plate to the shaft fell out. The blade scooted to the side and didn't seat right.

I was thinking on replacing the carb,but know body in my area has a carb for this Blazer.Know somebody that could have one??

choke the carb off with your hand and spray around the intake and surrounding areas with some carburetor clean... its a hydrocarbon and you will get an rpm change if there is a vacuum leak anywhere... this will also help you pinpoint it...

.....and have a fire extinguisher on hand. This is the best way to start a car fire.

Not saying its bad advice....I did the exact same thing until we got a smoke machine....set more than a few cars on fire too

never had a fire problem.... you just gotta pay attention to what you are doing

usually you're spraying down a car that isn't running properly. Cars that aren't running properly often are misfiring. A misfire causes spark to be....."encouraged" to find another path to ground. Carb cleaner vapor is very volatile and easy to ignite. You put all those facts together, and you have a recipe for setting cars on fire. This isn't a case of simply "being careful"....of course you always try to be careful, but depending on the circumstances, its a good recipe for a fire, and if you don't have the means to deal with that ASAP, then you will burn the car to the ground.

Simply take precautions, no matter how "careful" you think you are being. If you do it often enough on a wide range of cars, I promise you, you will set one on fire eventually!

I'm prety sure I found the prob ! the gas line was rusted and leaking just over the wheel well and there was a fuel line rusted off the Sender.
