235/40/17 will it fit?

Whats up guys. Will this size tire fit on our accords? Will I have to roll the fenders? Thanks in advance, also if anyone has some pics of Accords with 225 size tires or up post away!

235/40-17 should fit quite well in your fender well... heres an example of how i figure this...when i first got my 18's, they had 235/40-18 on the wheel and i rubbed even if i barely moved the wheel, mainly in the inside of the wheel well, so i moved down to 215/35-18 and I no longer have to even think twice about rubbing, though i still rolled my rear fenders anyways. so i'm just guessing that the size i went down to would be close to comparing 18's to 17's. Also, i know there some sort of tire size calulators somewhere amongst AF, but i do know that if you go to whalentire.com, they will tell you the correct sizes that you can use with the wheel size you have/want, and the car you drive. But you also have to ad in variations like wheel offset, camber, and how low your car is.

I dont have the rims yet, I wanted to check before I actually tried it out. If you can use 215 max on your 17x7's then I'm going to need 17-18x8 or 9 right?

yea most likely. youll have to work the fenders though. i clear by less than a 1/4". just wondering, why do you want such wide tires? cause you definetly dont need them with an accord.

Thumbs down dont get that.

im the tire calculator :

235/40/17

235 is the width in mm's of a tire. which would make it an unually wide tire size for your import. youd prolly see sidewall flex outward on a 17X7 or even a 17X7.5 or 8(the higher you go in this number the wider your tire gets )

40 is the percentage of the width of the tire... to create the sidewall height in mm's (kinda confusing...just read over more than once)(the higher you go in this number...the more sidewall you gain)

and of course 17 is the size the tire is made for.

now 235/40/17 would be ridiculously large looking...itll look like you have truck tires on your accord. so i seriously do not recommend buyin that awkward size. stick to 215/40 or 45/17

good luck and i hope you can understand it. its always made since to me..but some people sorta get things mixed up.

Maximum dimentions

In european standards you can at most have 215/45/17. If you go for 225 or higher you will not get an TÜV verification. (TÜV is an European demand - I do not now if it applays for you...)

You should look for OZ Polaris rims - they make the Accord look great!!

Umm....thanks for the breadown Atariallstar but I know about tire sizes and profile ratios, thanks. I agree that it will look abnormally wide but not like truck tires. Of course I know our cars don't need this kind of footprint and it will slow the already measly acceleration we do have...LOL. So it's obvious that I'm just going for looks here, I like the way wide treads look on cars....I suppose I could go 225 but is 10mm really a big difference?

i've got 225/40/18 tires on my '95 accord and i personally love the way it looks. that diameter size is just a little bit bigger than specs but it does just fine. The outside of the tires/rims lines up perfectly with the outside of my fender so when you look down the side of the car it is completely smooth, and so far i haven't had any problems of any kind, no rubbing, etc. i also like the way the wider tires look, but that's personal preference. i also have my car lowered with coilovers and a camber kit but i am not sure how much lower it is than stock, maybe 3 inches but i'm not sure. i can try to get some pics up if anybody is interested (i was planning on putting on some pics of my car anyway to see what people think). I'll let you know if i do. Just my 2 cents.

i think 10mm is a big difference. if it wasnt you could just keep going. adding in small incriments doesnt seem like much, but its adds up quickly. pretty soon you'd be 30 or 40mm over. maybe we're supposed to get 205, and gettin 215 is already 10mm over.

thomas crown: what's the width of your rims?

i'm not sure what size my rims are, either 18x7 or 18x8, i'll have to check next time i am home. I think the 225mm comes out to be 8.858 inches, and my tires are not much bigger than the wheels so i am guessing they are 18x8. is there such a thing as putting tires on that fit on the wheel but are too big, like putting 235s on 7" wheels, what would happen? i never heard of this so maybe it's a stupid question but i was just curious. what is the biggest tire size that will fit on 7" or 8" wide wheels?
