will 225/45-17 tires fit on the stock 17x6.5 rims?

hello, first post. Okay, I got a 95 Talon Tsi-FWD, it came with 205/55-16 tires. I upgraded from the 16's to 17's from a 97 AWD Talon, but the 215/50-17 tires on the 97+ AWD cars are too big and they throw my speedo off, as well as slow me down (cant have that)

A 225/45-17 tire would be closest to stock diameter, but since the stock 97-98 Talon AWD rims were 17x6.5 (odd width) Im wondering if the 225 width will fit on the 6.5 wide rim?

So does any body have the rims from a 97-99 AWD TSI or GSX and they are running 225/45-17 tires? I already ordered two tires from tirerack in this size and would like to be sure they will fit. THANX!

they should.. i agree with you on the 215/50 being a bit tall and what not.. but thats all they had in stock when i got my wheels and i didnt have time for the right size to ship in.. but i dont see a problem with it.. im pretty sure iv seen 245/45 17s or somethin mounted on a 17x7 so i dont see why i 225 wouldnt fit the 6.5...

They will fit no problem. What i am wondering though is how 215/50/17's are throwing your speedo off. I have 225/45/18's on mine and my speedo is fine. Before i put the wheels on, i laid them atop one another and the difference in diameter was close to nothing. I'm sure the speedo isn't EXACTLY what it was, but it couldn't be noticable to a human eye, or make a big enough difference to throw you off even 1 mph, could it?
