Aftermarket PCM?

I bought a '99 GTP from a man who just had it for a year, but the guy before him did some Mods to it (CAI, U-bend delete, wheels, rims etc) but how can I tell if the PCM is a reprogrammed one...or can I? I ask because the one I have is only being held by 1 screw and looks like it had been "tampered" with

Re: Aftermarket PCM?

Welcome to AF.

The best way to tell if you have a re-programmed PCM module is look for the data label placed there by the companies that re-program them. The top companies like DHP, Intense and ZZP affix labels like in the pic. Most PCMs will look tampered with due to the addition of a CAI because it must be removed from the stock air box and then secured. I've seen PCM modules secured by tie wraps. Name brand CAI/FWIs may have a tray to place the PCM module in.

On some PCMs you may not be able to tell visually if the previous owner used a power programmer and performed their own programming and made no annotation of it.

Good information, thank you. That would explain a lot.
