Blue 350 engine block in 70 camaro. where's it from?

I just picked up a '70 Camaro RS with a 350. Its not the stock 350. The engine block is painted blue and I can't find the numbers. I know ford engines are painted blue but its definately not a ford engine. I was wondering if anyone knew what company sold 350 crate engines that where blue, or what GM car company put blue blocks in there cars.

if it is a gm block the numbers will be on the passenger side in front of the head. It could be covered in oil the tab is only about 1 1/4 X 3/4 inches and the numbers are small. also there should be numbers above the bellhousing on the drivers side rear of the block.

GM started painting their engines blue in about 1981

you can look up the numbers at mortec.com. It will tell you what you have. you can also go to nastyz28 and run the suffix codes and find out exactly what car, plant, time, and date the engine is.

Re: Blue 350 engine block in 70 camaro. where's it from?

I don't know if you've found the numbers, and all the info you want, but I'm gonna share my little bit of knowledge whether you want it or not It sounds like you may have a Pontiac mill in your Camaro. Now, if that is the case, there will be differences. IRC, the Pontiac mill will have the opposite firing order, turn the rotor (ignition) counter-clockwise, and I think the crank itself actually rotates the opposite direction of a standard Chevy SB 350. Now I'm curious if all thats right, so correct me if I'm wrong.
