Thumbs down HELP!! Need to cast or mold...need info!!!!

I have a RC car and i recently stripped the gear in the steering. I can`t find a gear and I tried hand cutting one from a bigger one...it lasted 1 day! (stripped again)

There are 2 gears in it and they are both the same size, so I was thinking of making a mold with the remaining one and casting the one I need. Any idea how to do it? What mold material should I use? What casting material also? The gear is in high stress as this is a high speed drift RC.

Thank you very much.

Stripped a gear where in the steering? In the steering servo?

Servo manufacturers often sell replacement gears, and they tend to be pretty cheap. If it's a high stress component, home casting isn't going to be a realistic option. It would also likely be much cheaper to buy a replacement than it would be to buy casting materials.

This may not be the way to go. You can go about casting your own, but they probably won't be strong enough to hold up if it's a running gear you're wanting to make.

Check this thread for some of the sources we use for our mold making and casting materials.

Here's a nice walk-through on how to use them (basically.)

The gear is a guiding gear....it guides a pin attached to a sensor which knows how far to straighten the wheels.

I'll post pics when I get home...I'm at school

Exclamation REPOST - "Help!! Need to cast or mold...need info!!!!"

I have reposted with my old username....finaly remembered! lol

I have a RC car and I recently stripped the gear in the steering. I can't find a gear and I tried hand cutting one from a bigger one...it lasted 1 day! (stripped again)

There are 2 gears in it and they are both the same size, so I was thinking of making a mold with the remaining one and casting the one I need. Any idea how to do it? What mold material should I use? What casting material also? The gear is in high stress (jerks from cracks in the road) as this is a high speed RC.

The gear is 1 of 4 gears in the box; 2 gears to turn and 2 gears for the sensor to straighten out the wheels. The one stripped is a sensor gear.

I will post pics later on to show.

Thank you very much.
