Exclamation Ouch! (Warning contains post-op pics)

Well I got the stitches out the other day so thought I'd share some pics of the aftermath of what a very sharp chef's knife does to your average finger... this is about 3 weeks after about 2 hours of minor microsurgery to reattach things - mainly some tendons and nerves.

Apologies to the squeamish and I did warn you about the pics... and I don't remember Oz specifically banning this kind of thread but I'm open to it going if it offends anyone... or there is sporadic fainting...

While I'm getting the pics to work click on the link:

If you are still wondering the cut goes around the finger a long way...

If you wondering if it's hurting... well I don't feel much at the moment as I managed to sever the nerve which has been reattached. I'm beginning to get a pins and needles sensation but that's it. It's also pretty swollen & tight as I can't straighten the digit fully or make a fist at present. It's in a splint most of the time which s much better than the cast I had to immobilise the hand and my wrist.

After high school back in the early '80s I went to college and got my first degree in Food Service Management,( ended up deciding that wasn't what I wanted to do the rest of my life.) One thing I remember the professor telling us over and over again was to make sure our chef's knives were sharp at all times as a dull one causes more injury and you are apt to have a greater chance of an accident with a dull knife vs. a sharp one. I'm not sure if he is still alive, but if he was and had an email address, I'd send him those pictures and tell him it doesn't matter whether the knife is dull or sharp, it still does great damage.

i've had similar stuff.

i was using an electric saw and i slipped. cut diagonally accross the inside of my left thumb. i didn't even notice until i saw the blood all over my desk. cut through tendon, ligement, nerve, veins, artery and half of the bone. all in one quick slip.

Re: Ouch! (Warning contains post-op pics)

What was I doing when I cut myself? Making breakfast (not juggling knives as someone at the office suggested)...

Do I have photos before the surgery? Ummmm.. no I was too busy bleeding, wrapping my hand in a clean towel and heading to hospital to pull out my camera...

Re: Ouch! (Warning contains post-op pics)

Ouch, that looks painful. Glad I've never had anything like that happen to me. My dad drilled into his finger once. He looked at it, switched the drill direction and drilled out then when right back to work.
