Question
I've seen a few piston sets for cavaliers and the come in all different compression ratios. I think that the higher compression ones give you more horsepower? but im not really sure. Will an engine wioth 11:1 compression have more horsepower than one with 9:1 compression. Also I have heard you cant run 11:1 compression with a super or turbo charger is this true? What is the best course of action for incresing my hp low or high compression.

blowing up your motor
Yea you can run 11:1 with a SC or turbo but your motor will die soon after. What kind of car do you have? I have the 2.4. it currently has a 9:5 compression ratio. 9:5 is not too high if your gonna run low boost, but you should build your engine to suit your application. If you are gonna put a turbo in it and are planning on running high boost levels then you wanna lower the compression. I suggest you get block sleeves if your gonna run high boost. I myself am planning on getting a SC and i plan on running high boost, but the boost i will get out the super charger will not be too much too have to lower the compression. If you own a cavy your best bet is to get the GM super charger. unless you wanna build a one time down the track motor then you can throw in 13:1 and 20psi lol and sure it will be real fuckin fast but not for long.

I have a 2000 2.2 liter I was thinking of goin up to either the 2.2 ecotec or the 2.4. Im probly gonna stay mostly with NA and was thinking of maybe 11.5:1 compression higher if possible. I just wanted to know if I could throw a low boost turbo or supercharger on the engine without blowing it up maybe 4-6 lb. I just wanna know what the limits are before i see a piston come flying through my hood.

If you went with an 11:1 compression ratio wouldn't you have to use some sort of high octane additive to your gas?
