What cleaner for throttle body?

Guys,

My '02 GP w/3800 has a sticking gas pedal, I think I need to clean the inside of throttle body. I've read that ordinary carb & choke cleaner can kill the MAF sensor, so I was looking for some kind of TB cleaner. I went to two local GM dealers, the first was clueless, and all they had was Top Engine Cleaner. The other asked a tech, and they said use reg. carb cleaner, just don't hit the MAF. C'mon.

My local parts store has a can of CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner for $5.50. That's fine for the MAF, but that's not what I'm trying to clean.

They also have 3M Throttle Plate & Carb Cleaner - unsure if that's OK to use.

Bottom line - I want to clean the inside of the TB so it doesn't stick and not damage anything.

Lastly, no one seems to have STP Throttle Body Cleaner locally.

No STP TB spray cleaner?.............bummer! Good stuff.

Regular carb spray cleaner will work. Just don't get any on the MAF sensor element, meaning remove the MAF sensor being cleaning. Good luck.

Re: What cleaner for throttle body?

After striking out at AutoZone, Napa, "George's", and two dealerships, all I can say is...THANK GOD FOR WAL-MART. They had loads CRC Throttle Body cleaner - $3.50 a can! Ahhh, the little things that make you happy.

Re: What cleaner for throttle body?

Nothing wrong with Wally World. I get my Autolite spark plugs there and other consumables like wiper blades, motor oil, etc. Can't beat the cost and availability. Also, coolant like Prestone Extended life is a hell of alot cheaper than Autozone, Advance or Checker. Not to mention watching the hot chicas that come over to shop from Mexico.
