Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

Could the wiper motor be burned out. Right when I turn the car on the wipers start up, they will also still change speeds. Help Please.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

Since the wipers are are working it may not be a motor problem. Sounds more like a control problem. Maybe the contacts in the multifunction switch (MFS/Stalk) for the OFF position/command is bad or wiring. I'll double check the FSM wiring diagrams when I get a chance.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

According to the wiring diagrams it is a toss up between the MFS and wiper motor assembly control circuit board. There is 12 volts from the wiper fuse that goes through at least three wafer contacts in the MFS. In OFF the motor is supposed to get 0 volts at the circuit board which tells the wipers to go to the park (at home) position. Either voltage is being passed via bad contacts at the MFS or the motor control circuit board has a short. Good luck.

BTW - The motor circuit board is part of the wiper motor assembly.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

One last bite of info. the blades didn't go into the "home position" just before this happened. Could you give me you're best guess of the above two problems, tell me what parts I need and steps on how to fix if DIY.
Thanks I appreciate the help bnaylor

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

I'll have our parts advisor weigh in. Really hard to say without troubleshooting the problem with a DMM at the wiper motor electrical connector checking voltages so I would say it is 50/50 as to the two possible parts.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

One last bite of info... The wipers went from the homing position to a few inches up the windshild, it's almost like they were fluctuating back and forth from the homming and a few inches higher. They would also stay turned off, but randomly go through a cycle.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

Could you give me a place where I could pick up both these parts. I tried Ebay but they don't have any for a grand prix.

Thanks

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

I think it's the wiper motor assembly control circuit board, is there a place I can get it online? I've been looking everywhere and can't find one for my 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

Try GMPartsDirect.com or Ed Morad. He has an on-line EBay store specializing in Grand Prix and GM "W" body car parts, mainly used.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off.

I took my car to a garage and they said I needed a "complete windshield wiper moter" what does complete mean? They said they could do it for $300 LOL. A quick respond would be helpful.
