96 Ford Taurus

My Rear Main Seal is leaking and has been for some time. I keep checking and adding oil, it is getting worse. I have no idea what I am looking at price wise and I am afraid of getting messed over. I have been told it is a hard job and will cost a fortune but that tells me nothing. Please help!

Re: 96 Ford Taurus

Probably have to get the trans out of the way which is what'll cost the $$$$.. I've had two transmissions replaced, had the oil seals replaced for the H of it while it was available..

Are you sure it is the main seal and not the back of the oil pan gasket?? Remove the torque converter dust cover and reach up inside the transmission to see if oil is coming reom higher up then the oil pan gasket. Make sure you do not have car running while doing this.
