Heater/AC Problems

I have had my 1999 Grand Prix SE for about 7 months now. For the first 5 months everything was running perfectly. Here about 2 months ago the AC started only blowing normal air. Which I took that it was probably out of freon. Then a couple weeks later the Blower started randomly working sometimes it would come on others it wouldn't. Then it turned winter and the Heater would only work on 5. I could change the other dials(hot/cold and positioning) but if I turn it off 5 it wouldn't work. Now it's at the state where sometimes it works on 5 others it doesn't or if I turn it off 5 it stops working altogether and won't come back on till some time later or it just won't come on at all. Also, when it does not come on, my automatic headlights and dash lights will not come on either(I can turn my headlights on manually and the dash lights and headlights will come on) or I can turn the blower speed to Off and they will come back on. Most of the time if I open the door and keep turning the ignition switch off and on so the electronics reset, after about 10-20 mins it will come on and stay on till the car is turned off. I have seen a few similar issues on the site here but not sure if I'm having the same issue or not. I have taken this to my mechanic, he changed both the control boxes and the head but nothing helped and he finally gave up on it. It's freezing here and any help will be appreciated.

If I have forgotten anything important let me know. I am no where near a mechanic

PS- The head unit is just the normal factory head unit with defroster.

Re: Heater/AC Problems

I hate to bring bad news to you but you have the classic symptoms of a bad ignition switch.

Re: Heater/AC Problems

Bad Ignition switch will beat Freezing cold. That's what I thought it was after reading several posts in this forum but I'm one of those people that wants to make sure.

Thanks alot now if I only had an area I could put the car in while trying to change it lol...
