New project: Skoda Octavia WRC Evo 2

Here's a couple of shots of my latest project, Reji's kit of the Skoda Octavia WRV Evo 2. The kit is a pretty basic resin kit and needs a lot of tidying up even to get to this stage, here the wheels and brakes are done, the chassis is ready for top coat and the body has had several coats of filler primer and normal primer and quite a lot of filing to get to this stage. Still not sure about the ride height either, the holes for the front axle were too high pushing the wheels right into the arches so these were extended downwards but I can't decide whether the rear is too high, the car sits about level now but the ground clearance at the rear looks a little too much to me.
More as I progress.

Steve

Steve
Car looks good, you can look at www.wrc-online.net and look in the Skoda section galleries to get an idea of the ride height?
I think the nose sits down more, but I could be well wrong.

Ray

EDIT: added the photo that may help you?

I would drop that rear down a little more Steve, so it sits level. Looks good though!

The back seems a bit too high

How much did that kit cost?

The car looks like it is accelerating in that photo so it may not be completely accurate.

Jonno,
Why do you say that, my Subaru doesn't dip like a fwd when I accelerate hard, and it is AWD. My Focus does drop in the back though when I accelerate hard....fwd...
I understand what you are saying though, which is why I didn't post a picture of the car under heavy braking, then it would be inaccurate, but in this one, the car seemed to be the most neutral in its ride position. I had a long look for one of the car in parce ferme, but no luck.
Maybe looking on the site I posted above will still help though.

Hi Steve,

Nice to see a Reji kit reviewed and build togehter here. I was looking at the kit, the other day in the local hobby shop overhere and thought it was an interesting subject, especially since Belgian Bruno Thiry has driven it. But I'm not a die-hard fan enough to actually get one. Price in Belgium is around 75 to 95 euro's, but I might be mistaken. And yes, it needs a lot of attention and extra work like you indicated.

They also do a Porsche 911 RS in rally version, so I'm hoping to see the day they do the famous 911 RS SC version as well. (can be done in Rothmans, Belga, Bastos and many other versions.)

The back should be lower - asphalt version - like our friend hrmodeler indicated.

Anayway, good luck and keep us informed.

O.K. your coments made up my mind for me and I have lowered the back end by around a milimetre and it looks a lot better. I got the kit from Wong at Mediamix hobby in Singapore (he first informed me of the kit months ago after a post about most wanted models or rally cars months ago on this forum). It cost 138.90 Singapore dollars. I have built a couple of resin kits before (see gallery) but this is by far the one that needs the most attention. I've used some filler primer on the body as it is a thicker, higher build primer to fill in some of the imperfections in the moulding. As for the lifting and dipping thing I'm sure my Impreza squats at the rear under hard acceleration, in the same way that heavy braking shifts inertia to the front making it dip, hard acceleration shifts it the opposite way making the rear end squat down (PERHAPS!!!)

More soon

Steve
