VES solenoid

What I have found regarding the VES solenoid is always tied to a cadillac and not a GP but, the Diagnostic code C0450 leads to the VES solenoid. Anyone out there known anything about this. ABS/Trac off lights are on. Hubs check ok. Mechanic is looking at EBCM now. Which according to GM is appropriate. One pontiac mechanic has suggested replacing the rack and pinion but, no mechanic that has looked and scanned have gone there, yet.

It would help to post your year and model Grand Prix. I asked you at this thread below what scan tool was being used.

Technically, the C0450 is not a valid Grand Prix DTC and you are probably getting a translation error with whatever scan tool you are using. The only scan tool capable of troubleshooting the EBTCM module and the variable effort steering system (VES) is a GM Tech II scan tool. Also, it would help to use proper GM documentation like the Factory Service Manual which covers the Mark VI ABS system and the VES system.

For example proper VES DTCS are:

C1273 and C1274

Not all Grand Prixs have the VES system so check to make sure you have the VES actutator between the power steering pump and rack and pinion. Also, you should see a lone wiring harness and electrical connector to the VES actuator. At low speeds steering effort is minimized and at higher speeds the steering effort increases for better road control and steering feedback. The EBTCM module looks at wheel sensor output to determine how to control the VES via the EBTCM module. The EBTCM module is the device that controls the VES actuator.

If you are 100% sure all wheel sensors are good to include all wiring leading up to the EBTCM module then you may have a defective EBTCM module.
