Re: 1969 - 1970 ford 429 engine

I was just reading about this.
There were a number of 429's, but apparently only the NASCAR version had hemispherical block (I assume that means the heads, although it says block?)), and only some of those at that.

"429 Nascar
"Larger Outboard bolts in #1 main bearing cap.

"Deck height was grooved for O rings.

"Larger machined refliefs for exhaust pushrods

"Longer street rods, than the Boss 429-820S type

"Some blocks had full hemi design, others crescent type

"Stainless steel intake valves

"Magnesium valve covers and intake manifold."

Re: 1969 - 1970 ford 429 engine

Boss 429's have what is considered a hemispherical combustion chamber. Hemispherical is were Mopar gets it's Hemi name.

So while it is technically a Boss 429 is a Hemi, it's not completely like the Mopar Hemi. So often the Boss 429 were described as a "Semi-Hemi"

Yep, that 'semi-hemi' is what Ford called the crescent combustion chamber!

Re: 1969 - 1970 ford 429 engine

and dodge didnt sue them because ford didnt call it hemi in the name. its just a trademark. if it was named the boss 429 hemi, then ford probably would have been sued.
