Bullshit. Pun intended.

One of Ferrucio Lamborghini's misguiding principles was that motorsports involvement was a danger to company reputation and personnel. He was fired from Ferrari because he suggested that the F1 team and endurance teams be dropped and that Ferrari should concentrate on its road cars. Thus, it is tradition at Lamborghini to not be involved in racing. It's an unfortunate tenant, though it would only prove that Lambo's have trucklike handling, fragile gearboxes and are generally pathetic creatures. In fact, Volkswagen has flat-out said that there are no intentions to bring Lamborghini into sportscar racing. It would infringe on their plans with Audi.

Talking

Mr. Lamborghini did not work for Ferrari. He was an unsatisfied owner of many Ferrari's,very wealthy from his farm implement buisiness(tractors etc.).When his friend Enzo did not listen to his complaints and desires he decided to start his own supercar firm. They have raced before on a limited basis(don't have the Italian governments money to play with).I have not seen to many production based Ferrari's winning championships in the last few decades either. On the whole these types of cars do not make great racers.

There is one guiding rule at Ferrari: If the F1 team isn't winning. The company isn't thinking of anything else. The whole period between the death of Gilles Villeneuve and Schumi's championship was a period where Ferrari was a company that had lost its way. Now that the Scuderia is the dominant force in Formula 1, we can now see more factory support for production based sporstcars ie: the 360GT Modena project and increased spending on the 575 Maranello GTS teams' development (perhaps a full factory team soon)

As for production based Ferraris winning in competition- it hasn't been for lack of trying by privateers. I hold up as examples the 512BB LM's, the IMSA F-40's (there were two, I believe) and the factory's abortive F50 GT1 project. In each case, Ferrari spent money to help develop the type even though at the time they were officially out of sports car racing. How many tiffs did Commendatore have with the ACO, anyway?

Octagon is right concerning factory involvment of the Lambo factory. But nothing keeps a privateer from entering a Murcielago, like the prodrive 550 Maranello, which was a fully private endeavour to begin with.

Does anybody knows if the Lamborghini factory was involved in the Diablo one make series (aside from supplying body parts )?

This is quite odd, since they are currently building & developping the 550 Maranello...

In any case, may teams have stated their intention to run in the GTS category next years, which should be interesting!

hi,

Lamborghini will be in FIA GT racing next year with upgraded Diablos from the Supertrophy one make series. An upgrade kit has been developped by Reiter Engineering; the "GTR-S" has already seen track action this year.

The Murcielago is 4WD and therefore not eligible for any GT category.

Reiter Eng. also developed the racing version of the Spyker (it debuted at this year's Le Mans 24) - they have in the mean time lost that contract though.

So because the Zonda is coming in (with Carsport btw), the Lambo can't come in as well?
