rps13 model, rb20

Hopefully I can keep interested in this one to finish it. Plans are to be OOB with an RB20.

The model is a Fujimi Initial D rps13 and is it a very bad kit imo, bad fitting parts, lots of flash, but I'm still going to work with it. Anyway onto the pictures.

Shot of the body with the wheels and the hood cut out.

Tranny cut out

Putty on the crappy fitting front

Backs of seats filled with plastic sheet and putty

Front Bumper again, with vents cut out and a plan drawn out to cut the bumper for an intercooler

And finally the work that has been done on the tranny tunnel

Very interesting project! Did those wheels come with the kit?

Re: rps13 model, rb20

yes, the wheels came with the kit and they are by-far the best part of the kit. I ordered tne rb20 from detail and design in scale the other (recommend them if you ever need car or motorcycle parts), hope to get it soon so I can start on the engine bay.

Re: rps13 model, rb20

got the rb20 set from Dave great and quick service, however the Aoshima engine kit isnt much to look at after you get past the great valve cover, intake manifold and a few other parts. But of course I knew this and wasn't really expecting much, anyway after some mods to the bay piece that came witht he kit I'm still not satisfied so some cutting will ensue tonight.

Heres a few pictures

Bumper cut

Engine Bay

Sucky fit, but its not designed for this model

Thats exactly what I did, except I created a lot more work for myself, but it will be better in the end. Gotta finish up a few things and then I'll post some pictures.

Re: rps13 model, rb20

my buddy has a 1:1 sileighty with an RB25DE-T, and it is WAY more crouded in his engine bay than what you are showing there. I think you should move it foreward about 4 scale inches to build up the cowl/firewall as it is on the real S13.

his RB is SO tight into his engine bay that he has to use a pusher style fan on his KOYO radiator as there isn't enough room between the water pump pully and rad to even fit a ratchet in between the 2.

but alas this is just a model, and you can say that you moved the firewall back to better your weight distribution. haha

this is looking pretty good. do you have pics of the RB20 valve cover, and intake and such? I may end up getting that kit and converting a Tamiya RB26 DETT to better resemble an RB20DET.

Re: rps13 model, rb20

I dropped the whole idea of using aoshima's engine bay that came with the kit and started scratch building my own. Hopefully it will turn out good, I've got plenty of reference with my 1:1 sitting outside (although its ka-t powered).

heres the start of it

And here is a picture of the valve cover (with ignitor on it), the intake manifold parts and the front cover, I think this is by-far the best parts of the kit.

if you need a bigger picture, just shoot me a PM

Re: rps13 model, rb20

hey that's alright, it looks just like my friend's aside from the intake (he's greddy)

I just wanted to see how well it resembled the real one, I'm satisfied enough.

Re: rps13 model, rb20

Finally an update worth posting.

I first came to a problem that all 240sx owners come to when swapping on rb in there car. The engine dosent fit on the stock subframe so I either had to make custom mounts or swap in a skyline subframe. I just happened to have a 4dr skyline front subframe from my blitz skyline that I'm converting to an ER34 with the help of a tamiya kit, anyway here is a comparsion between the two. Skyline on two, 240 on bottom.

There was a couple problems, I didn't want the extra plastic engine protection and the subframe was a couple MM's two short. So the cutting ensues....

And what I'm going for on the skyline.

After about 4 days of work, I have this

And just a couple pictures of the engine block progress with a stolen oil pan.

Re: rps13 model, rb20

Nice car: I build the same but mine came with a twisted body and a broken windshield... Built it white pearl.

Here's pics of mine with a black friend: http://www.spc.org.uk/forum/viewtopi...=twisted+metal

Do you have plan for the color?
