New project started last night for the next Tamiya/con-A different Flavor

Hey guys, i got started on this last night. Been wanting to do something different for awhile. Its a customized Hot rod bike that I sacrificed a Tamiya Yamaha XV1600 RoadStar kit for. I've got a bit of work to do, but its easier than a car.

So far, I've reshaped the fenders and narrowed the tank and front fender, but still need some more shaping to my satisfaction. The frame was modified and tubing was added/ relocated in several places. The front fork was partially redone with aluminum tubing. Head tube gussets need to be redone later. The handle bars need to be straightened, but I don't want to damage that beautiful chroming job from Tamiya. I also took some parts from a Honda CBR 100xx to complete.

This may not be your flavor of motorcycles, but I thought I'd like some opinions, color schemes, and other modifications. I'd like to shoot it with a dark metallic purple with lime green metallic flames with flourescent yellow tips and bright red trim around the flames.

Here's the orignal kit pic ( I didn't build this one)

Before and after changes

This is what it looks like right now

When I first read your description I immediately thought of the car on Meguiar's catalog. That said, it would be an awesome paint job to replicate.

Very Cool Bike. I have never seen any one really convert or modify a bike kit. Good Job.

walter, this is the scan of the Meguiar's car. It's the same paint scheme as the pic you posted. Here you go:

I love the flame job. I remember seeing something on TV that showed a bike with that paint job on it. The guy who made the bike was Jessie James. It was on the Discovery Channel. I drooled over the bikes that he made.

It was Jesse James from West Coast Choppers in the Long Beach area. Its about 30 minutes from me. I saw the 2 Discovery episodes about WCC and got the ideas about doing a bike like that in plastic as I can't fork out 50,000-70,000 for a bike like that. I think the Yamaha bike kit came out in 2000 and just had to have for the v-twin motor and the frame.

Got to work on making a flat handle bar out of aluminum today and reshaped the fenders. Post some pics on this thing later.

Oh, check out the website at www.westcoastchoppers.com

Now that I think about it the Meguiars car is green with blue flames

Go for the blue/green paint job walter, I think it'd look FANTASTIC on that

A tiny bit of progress

It has been many months since I touched this, but here are some other images of the slight changes I have done. I still need to reshape the tank and fenders. The front fork needs to be narrowed and the wheels need to be done like my sketch. I'm hoping I can chrome plate everthing, but I may just use Alclad for a highly polished aluminum look.
