Well i ffinally took my car to shop.

I get the call

My fuel pump is shot and my motor wasnt geting the fuel it needed. said it was getin about 20 pounds of pressure and needed about 40-50 to be working properly.
he said my ignition coils were so corodid he couldent even see them.
one of my spark plug wires aparently fell against the ehaust and melted straight through the wire. he also said the rest of the wires were very brittle.

he said my intake manifold was leaking oil onto top of my motor and thats why it woudlent show a leak on ground.

my turn signals dont work.

Re: MY PA is #@$^%@$

Your PA isnt Boned....

Do some of the work (as much as you can) yourself...

Ignition coils, spark plugs, plug wires, signal regulator and even the head-gasket can all be taken care of in your driveway for PENNIES compared to what the dealership will cost you in labor.

Have them do the master cylinder (it could just be the brake lines coming OUT of the cylinder) because you don't want to mess around with brakes...

You could also do the fuel pump yourself if you're experienced enough.. but I'd reccomend the shop do that too, once you start playing with gas, dangerous stuff can happen.

Buy the poor thing a new battery while you're at it. Give it an oil change, and while the car is in the shop, have them throw a new belt on it and have them flush the transmission.

All-in-all, for what you absolutely NEED to get back on the road... you're gonna spend between 200 and 500 bucks. That's IF you do SOME of the work yourself.

If you've got the extra cash for the oil, belt, and tranny... it'll run you upwards of 800-1000 all-in-all. (Last time I had a shop do my transmission in my PA it cost 460.)

The 3800 is a strong motor. Keep it happy, and it'll be good to you. All the problems you listed are worth it if the car is in good order.

Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Lol, I think you just want to fix it up and have another PA to add to your list! Lol... He'll be fine if he wants to spend the money/do some work.

Stuff breaks, that's life. However, preventive maintnance is key, without it, any vehicle is worthless no matter what year or how much you bought it for.

And, I'd hate to say, but the Le Sabre/Park Avenue line has without question one of the longest and best know lines of being reputable.

Bass, what's your starting bed? I miss my PA.

Re: MY PA is #@$^%@$

By the sounds of it this poor PA hasn't had any preventative maintenance done on it in awhile IE: melted and brittle spark plug wires, turn signals not working, brake fluid leaking, etc. Most things listed as wrong with this car are all things that one would catch if the car is being properly maintained. Even quick oil change places check belts, hoses, spark plug wires, etc. The 3800 engine is a work horse IF taken care of properly. I wouldn't blame the car for the troubles, but blame the owner.

Re: MY PA is #@$^%@$

The shop told me $1200 roughly...

i bought the car last july it had 114k miles on it, i didnt know previous owner so i was in the dark on maintence on this bad boy. But this car is going on 11 years old and the body has almost no rust (bought it out west). so Im going to try to get it fixed because like you said, the motor is strong, and the body is good, so the other stuff is worth fixing. especially if i can do some of the work myself and save on the dang labor costs which break my balls.

i dont know a whole lot about vechicles but i try to do as much as i can. I think i am going to try to find a mechanic who will do the fuel pump and wires and coils as a side job usually not to hard to find a willing one

eitherway i am too poor to pay $1200 and im probably going to get a credit card and go in debt to fix this.

Re: MY PA has several issues

The manifold leak is the problem Im not sure of.. havent heard of those engines developing oil leaks on the top manifold.. may just be a valve cover loose and needs a tiny torque...
If you can get that done as cheaply as possible you proubbly work the other issues done yourself. If you are inclined.

The Coil packs are very replaceable and often found cheap at junkyards..
The Wires .. you only need to replace the burned one if your really saving $$.. try to find one of them there too..

Master cylinder leaks will have to be replaced.. Often the gum that builds up either wedges in the seals or the seals just wear out.. .. not too bad of a swap.. follow directions provided in the box.

My car has 220k miles on it and just now getting a bit tired. .

The Engine in your car has a history of LONG life... when taken care of.

Good Luck

Re: MY PA has several issues

I had the fuelpump replaced by the shop cost $600 (OUCH) and i got new wires9all of them) and new ignition coils, and i put 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaner through last 2 tanks of gas. all in all i spent about 750-800, but the PA is like it never has been before, starts so strong everytime, faster acceleration, more power (slightly less effecient gas mileage :P) but its fixed and working and good to go woo, im a happy clam

124k Miles on it now, body with no rust. Looking forward to 200k
