Up in smoke...

Well, of all the forums, I figured you guys would probably appreciate this the most.

So, tonight I drove to work in my 99 GP GT, as pictured in my status. Anyway, usual drive, I get to work (Cracker Barrel, for whatever that counts for), park, and go inside. About 20 minutes later, after I get done counting my drawer and get put in up front, a lady comes in and says there is a red Pontiac in the parking lot that is on fire. She has the license plate number written down. Mind you, I don't have my license plate memorized. Never had to. I knew it was all numbers though, and that's what the one she wrote down was. So, I call a manager and go outside to look. Sure enough, I see my car with smoke billowing from under the hood. I got closer, and saw liquid under the car, never good of course. My manager goes in to call the fire dept., and as soon as he does flames start coming from under the hood as well. A few minutes later, as the cops and firemen show up, I heard what I think were the radiator hoses bursting. They ended up having to hack through my hood with an axe to get to the fire, as the hood popping lever didn't work. Anyway, in the end, I am now carless.

I'm surprisingly mellow about it, not all that upset. I'm looking into a Grand Am GT at the moment, great deal and a trusted dealer. Not even a catastrophic engine fire will scare me away from Pontiac.

Cliff Notes: Catastrophic engine fire, car totaled, in the market for a new car.

Re: Up in smoke...

Bummer! Sorry to hear that BigBL87.

I recall another member here at Grand Prix had a similar catastropic incident and posted pics. It may have been related to leaking fuel line where they connect to the fuel injector rails. It would be interesting to know the cause of your fire.

Good luck and I hope things work out for you.
