there are no true short throw shifters for the cougar. the shift tower doesn't have enough room to have a true STS. cutting your shifter will do about the same thing as a STS and it is a lot cheaper. oh and on the STS's that are out there for the cougar you will notice it only shortens half of the throws. (this is just what i have heard i own an ATX so i dont know from experience)

edit: i just did a little research and steeda makes a STS that will work but it requires some modifications to fit. The 99-00's need a riser plate. The 01-02's you should remove the bottom trim piece.

the 99-00 have diferent shift assembly than the 01-02's. i dont have any detailed instrustions yet but i will do some more checking about it and post here.

yeah after doing some more research most people say that it feels alot "stronger" than the stock shifter. and of course it is shorter so it will shorten shifts. but that could be done by cutting down the stock shifter if you dont have the money to spend on a B&M. if you have the money then by all means get the B&M you will not be disappointed.

I was very pleased with my B&M shifter. Expensive upgrade though...may want to find another upgrade that will actually give you some HP's. Cougar's already come with a short throw stock. Its nothing like Honda's thats for sure, you have a long throw for most imports.

I have the B&M Shifter and I love it. But if money is an issue, www.customcougars.com makes a much cheaper version of the short throw and it is just as good.
