Dakar

Seeing the Dakar is currently on again, it struck me that there aren't too many models of Dakar vehicles. I think the bikes, cars and espescially the trucks would make awesome builds!!

Re: Dakar

I agree. I've only seen one Dakar truck kit and that one was old. I didn't even know they raced trucks at Dakar, until a couple of days ago.

Re: Dakar

If they made a model of the 1986 Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar winner, whether or not it had an engine, as long as it had good decals, I would definitely buy it, hands down.

Not too much models ? Just take a look here if 1/43 could be an answer for you: www.gaffe.fr

it already does exist !
1/24: gunze sangyo made it years ago
1/43: same for Starter

You can find both on Ebay sometimes...

Esci made some plastic dakar models years ago: mercedes 450 slc, mercedes G-class, range rover...

Re: Dakar

I would probably be alot more excited to do a Dakar Rally build if I could find coverage of the event. WRC is hard enough to follow in the US, but I don't know of any Dakar coverage at all. Shame, I expect it would be fun to watch.

Gunze did a 959 '86 Dakar winner. It will take you some persistance to find one, though.

The VS (Versus) network, formerly Outdoor Life, is currently showing the Dakar coverage, and has for at least a couple of years.

Now if they'd only take up where WRC left off with the completely worthless Speed Channel

Well, they are pretty good if you keep in ming they are mostly 80's kits.
They are curbside models, noit very much detailed and the most often have correct shape.
Decals are fine.

I think that with new released (re-released in fact) as the mercedes 280 G and former kits from tamiya, gunze or esci one would be able to find around 10 1/24 dakar kits to build...

there also exist studio27 decals for the peugeot 205 T16 GR... but no kits !
