Help A Newbie

ait now i'm gonna start by coming straight out. yes i am a nissan owner but that has nothing to do with anything. i love cars not just nissans and want to prove that honda's aren't crap to nissan owners by owning my 240sx along with a 2nd gen crx. right now i'm looking for one in the ny area for real cheap and in good body condition and i wanna make the car full race but the only thing is i don't know a damn thing about hondas and their engines/trannys/ecu's and chassis' any help would be great thanks

rob

A good way to gain tons of knowledge would be to spend some time and read through some of the old threads that are posted here already. There are tons of threads full of good information on just about everything, and if there's something that isn't mentioned, just make a new thread about it.

well since you want to maek it a full race crx try really hard to get an 88. out of all the 88-91 88 are the lightest (i think.. it may be 89) it you plan on doing an engine swap dont worry about what model you get ie hf or Si... (i have heard of a Si running 10's with the stock a6 motor) the D16a6 is the Si engine that came in the 88-91 crx/civic. your best swap (in my opinion) if you are gonna do nothing but run on the track would be an H22. (the H22 is the the stock engine out of the newer preludes, however this engine is HUGE and literally has to be shoe horned in to fit in the engine bay. you will lose almost all your turning ability due to the weight of the motor).... ok i'll let you soke that up and ask more questions before i ramble some more.

not only because of the engine but also it has like NO options, so you dont have to worry about taking everything out. Also the HF was MPFI which makes it a lil easier for swapping engines.

yeah get the HF. it is a whole lot lighter than the DX and SI. The H22a requires a good bit a massaging from a sledge hammer to fit into a CRX.... If youre going straight race with the car do you want to go all motor, turbo or NOS? this would help us in answering what kind of setups to consider.

i'm looking to make a good powered n/a engine and then eventually down the line turbo that engine so i'm looking for a honda engine thats good when it's n/a and has all it's internals built up for a turbo but then takes even better when its fed with a turbo. also i'm looking to do all the work myself so h22 is out of the question theres no way i'm going to stand in an engine bay with a sledge hammer

b18c would even be a better option for the na setup and when you go turbo it will help also so i would say get a b18c but not a b18c5

some are and some arent. the b18a/b's are non-vtec, but the b18c's are vtec motors. the B18a/b's came out of 90-2000 ls's and the b18c1 is the Gsr motor, whereas the b18c5 is the type-r motor!
