There are more links at the bottom of that page (the first link on that page is a more detailed explanation).

But basically the vtec camshafts have 2 different profiles on them. 1 for low rpm used for better fuel economy over having an all out aggressive cam. And the other is an aggressive profile for more power. At a certain rpm (somewhere around 5000 rpm, give of take a few hundred rpms), the engine switches over to the aggressive cam profile. It's a boost in power for higher rpms. The newer VTEC systems (known as i-VTEC, or intelligent vtec) is far more complex; and involves both the came profiles and switching from 2 valves per cylinder to using 4 valves. And there's nothing to fear about it. Since Honda introduced it, almost every other car manufacturer has come out with their own ways of doing the same thing.

Oh and I think there's deffinitaly a reason to fear it. That changeover sound will send children running.

Re: wtf...............what is vtech.......

There's really too many to list. Pretty much from 1992 to now, the higher end trims of almost every Honda and Acura model have vtec engines. Si and EX Civics, GS-R and Type R Integras, Del Sol Si and VTEC, Prelude Si and VTEC, Accord EX, NSX, this and last generation CRV's, S2000's

Re: wtf...............what is vtech.......

Newer models have i-VTEC. Basically it's the same as a VTEC engine AND it has a computer controlled adjustable cam gear that adjusts itself as you are driving.

Re: wtf...............what is vtech.......

Hmmm, then you did not understand. You don't want to switch to aggressive cam at lower rpms, because less aggressive works better on lower rpms... You will not gain, you will loose...
