A million dollars. Let's see...

I'd pay off the loan on the car, pick up a book from the library and then buy a newspaper - preferably a Weekend Herald or similar. I'd have a look around for a some units to rent out and look to buy maybe four or five. A million dollars won't be enough so I'd use the equity to leverage mortgages at the bank. But only enough so that the interest is 75% of the rentals on the units.

I'd use the book to figure a way of declaring this a trading trust so I can claim a whole pile of expenses, use the additional cash to do some maintenance/improvements and then figure a way to do a sliding divestment/reinvestment over the next few years.

I figure I can do this for about the next 15 years - and then retire from my day job with enough equity to not have to work again.

Sure some people would call me a slum lord but I'm providing housing for someone and providing employment for a whole pile of others.

Hey being a capitalist isn't a crime (well not yet - apart from the ridiculous amount I spend on tax - which is why I'd take some time to figure a way of minimising the tax exposure)...

Now if I won the 5 million dollars in the lottery... then that would be something else...

Pay off the car, finish doing up the car to what I want.

buy a house, kit it out with some nice but not too expensive things.

then invest the rest.

Hmm a million aye? Well in kiwi $ its not as much as I would like but it would certianly keep me happy for a while.

1st thing I would do is ring my employer and tell him I can't work for ever again. Then Hire a relief driver for him for a month so he could find a replacement.

Then I would ring 3 or 4 of my closest friends and tell them they have one month to get time off work and get thier passports ready.
Spend maybe 200,000 on a Holiday where ever they wanted to go. Im thinking a combination of Europe and Asia.

Then I would pay for a friends wedding.
Buy myself a nice Lotus Elise that I know if for sale for the right price, and spend about 10g on getting my kit car going.
And of course give 10% to a variety of non-christian charitys.

So theres a healty 400 odd gone on hedonism and being nice to the world.

That leaves me with 600 odd to invest.
In quite what I dont know, but enough accountants and lawyers that I dont think I will have a problem.
Then I would still go looking for a Job after graduating, just to becasue I would go mad with nothing to do.

If it was US$ well then simply double all the above numbers.

Elementary school was only 4 years ago and AF is younger than that, so it was recent.

Start from scratch on the to-be ultimate car!
