Ligier Mugen Honda JS41 BBR 1/43

I have just started another F1 machine. This is my first model in this scale and first try with white metal.
Keep yours fingers crossed then

Cast is high quality so I hope that it will be pure modeling pleasure.

Hi Macio

Looks interesting.
I have several 1/43 models lying around here, so I'll be following your build closely.
I hope you will describe all the steps you follow as elaborate as possible.

I noticed that you already seem to have polished the body of this kit. With what and how did you do that ?

Good luck with your build !

Re: Ligier Mugen Honda JS40 BBR 1/43

Can't wait to see this develop. Never tried my hand at 1/43 or a metal kit so this will be a learning experience for me too.

Kind regards,
Bill

Re: Ligier Mugen Honda JS40 BBR 1/43

Here come few pictures which show how small 1/43 is. The grey F1 is a Tyrrell Honda 1/20. Comparing Ligier
1/43 to Tamiya 1/20 is like comparing David to Goliath
Look at the wheels...

Building process, first impressions:
1) White metal is easy to sand and comparable to styrene
2) It seems that finishing main body will be the most time consuming
3) It seems that the most difficult is to glue wings and suspension
4) Tools: sanding sticks by Hobby Dragon, 3M sanding sponge and files

I have change the order of mounting steps. First of all I have started with bottom of the nose then glued
this main body in order to all the gaps before painting. I use regular Tamiya putty (grey) and it seems to be ok.

Next update will be soon.

Re: Ligier Mugen Honda JS40 BBR 1/43

Wow! I hadn't appreciated the size difference between 1/20th and 1/43rd before. It is one thing to know its about half the size but it is not until you see them side by side it really sinks in.

Good look with the Ligier.

Regards,
Billy P

P.S. Nice Tyrrell by the way.

Re: Ligier Mugen Honda JS40 BBR 1/43

So far, so good. I have cleaned and primed body, it's 95% done. I will make some minor touch ups before painting body color.

Rims are glued as well as brake air ducts. Some of the parts on the pictures are already primed with clear primer.

Notes on build:
1) Regular Tamiya putty works well
2) Clear and grey primer do their job well
3) Parts are damn small - doubled attention needed, as it is much easier to break them then styrene ones.
4) All parts were cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before priming
5) I am going to prime all of the parts to be sure that paint will not strip off
6) Xuron PE cutter and Tamiya diamond file for PE are irreplaceable

Dry fitted

Front rim

New home for Ligier

Going back to work

Nice update. Thanks for taking the time to explain things. All the parts you have primed look spot on and your storage box looks like a safe place to keep things.

Keep up the high standards,
Billy P

Re: Ligier Mugen Honda JS40 BBR 1/43

Just noticed that it is the Brazil '95 version you have. I started prep'ing Mika Salo's Brazil '95 Tyrrell over Christmas (Tamiya 1/20). Perhaps when they are done, we could have a race?

Good idea! Yours is bigger but mine faster (Honda)!

Thanks for kind words. This build is quite a pleasure so far. I am pleased that fitting is so good. The good thing is that most of the parts are PE so they do not need extensive clean up (opposite to the cast ones)

M.

Nice work so far!

But I never understood how BBR could have made such a mistake....there never was a JS40! The car you are building is named JS41.

Well, it looks like a mistake. I did not dig very deep in history but name JS40 appeared few times in the net.
