I bought the "New MR2 SW20" kit a while back and it had the correct SW20 body. I know Chris (FOTW) just bought the same kit and got the SW21 bodies in it.

Jay - should it be T-top coz on the box its hardtop? Is sw20 t-top and sw21 hardtop then?

I've been told that:
SW20 = turbo
SW21 = n/a

I also have come to understand that all SW20s came with t-tops, but t-tops were also available on SW21s.

The determining factor as far as body shape is the engine cover:
SW20 = raised vents
SW21 = flush vents

Fujimi has many versions:

Inch-Up - (three versions! ):

Never seen this box before, but it just came up on Ebay. Matches the Inch-Up #40 kit that I have. You can see it's the correct SW20 body.

The standard Inch-Up box... This shows *NO* t-tops, and there is no view of the engine cover. This is the one you have, right?

Compare it to the one on file at HLJ and Hobby Search... Note that it's the same picture, except it now includes the t-tops

*This is what my box at home looks like!*

Tohge:
You can see the raised engine covers, but it really looks like there's no t-tops. That would make it an anachronism...

Young Town:
Another one I've never seen in person; obviously it's boasting t-tops, but again, no clear shot of the engine cover...

I guess there's also an Initial D version, and another Tohge version with a blue car on the front... Ain't seen neither of those...

So... do any of the hardtop bodies have raised-vent engine covers?

T-Top and raised vent don't go together, so your only option is Operation 221, two kits to one model.
I think the easiest way is to cut the vent along the panel line, and graft it onto the T-Top body.

But that's not an issue, since all the t-toped bodies already have the correct engine cover. Crazy Fuijmi!

Was that your pic of the Initial D kit? Does it in fact have the turbo engine cover on the hardtop body?

jay, you are right about SW20 and SW21.

If we are talking strictly about Fujimi Molds, then you will only get SW20 (TURBO) with t-tops and raised vents.

Otherwise u get SW21(non turbo), no raised engine vents and a hardtop.

Now on the otherhand, in real life, SW20's were available in T-Tops and Hardtop models, but the hardtops are ULTRA rare in the North American Market. Almost every MR2 in NA has t-tops in either turbo or non turbo models.

I was thinking the other way around, didn't I? What I meant was that using both bodies, you can have either T-top with flat vents, and hardtop with raised vents.

Add two new race versions to the list:

Luck elsport Toyota MR-2
Cockpit Kawagoe Toyota MR-2

Both appear to be hardtop cars, but who knows what'll be in the box...

I was going to mention those Jay coz i have a theory...

Coz those two have been released, its the reason why the other current MR2 kits are hardtops. Fujimi therefore are currently able to sell 4 different kits with the one tooling. Make sense?
