Sorry guys I know that this question has nothing whatsoever to do with modelling in any form, but as we have quite a few Japanese members they'll be able to tell me the answer!
In England we get quite a few Japenese import cars (Imprezzas', Lancer Evos', Mitsi FTOs' etc) now when they get their MOT approval they get fog-lights fitted (cars from a certain date must have a fog-light by law!) why don't they have fog-lights fitted as standard? Don't you have fog in Japan? Once again sorry to go totally off-topic!

Not as often as England.
I think it's something to do with the vehicle class. Those econo compact of 1.1L - 1.6L engine, with the price range of $8000-$13000, fog lights are optional, but anything above that usually have fog lights as a standard feature. (My Legacy has one.) Another reason I can think about is that those export vehicles are somewhat stripped down version, keeping the extra stuff minimum for tax or some other reasons. Then, add dealer installed options (or requirements) such as fog lights later. Some people, who are more conscious about customizing, prefer to take the fog lights off, and choose those aftermarket ones, such as PIAA or Raybrig. |
