All depends on the state you live in. Plan on spending at least $300 on a helmet, more if you can afford it. Here in NH you need either a permit or license to ride, on a permit no passengers and no night riding. Insurance will depend on your driving record, anything else call the dmv where you live, they can tell you what you need to know, also call your insurance agent get a quote.

you can buy the bike you just cant ride it. yeah dont skimp on a helmet.
try to get snell approved its a higher class than dot. take the time to try on a couple make sure it fits snug but comfortable. and skibum's right you will need a permit. if you have the money i recommend taking a course. and if you go to the motorcycle forum at the beginning of this site you wont be off topic. |

If i remember from previous posts, your from Florida...being a florida resident, I know there is no helmet law if you have insurance on either the bike or yourself...though i HIGHLY recommend wearing a helmet. Also, you don't have to carry insurance on a bike if you own it...if its a loan from the bank, they will probably make you insure it. The learners permit is free unless you fail it, then its like 10 or 15 bucks to retake it. No passengers on the learners permit but you can ride at night...you get 4 months I believe on the learners before you have to either re-up the learners or take the actual driving test (up to 6 times I think you can just renew the learners). I got a pretty good deal on a helmet from a company out of Daytona called The Helmet Shop I think...they carry good brands at below retail price even after shipping. My HJC helmet was about $200 and it was near the top as far as quality. Good luck.
