House light on dash
Okay guys, while driving to work this morning, this one light on my dash board flashed on. It’s the one that looks like a house that’s located at the bottom right hand corner of the dash. It came on twice and usually came on when I was stepping on the brakes. I tried slamming on the brakes and slowly stepping on the brakes to see if it’ll come on or go off but it didn’t so I’m assuming that it just came on randomly.
Other than that, the only other symptom I noticed was that my stereo light kept dimming and going super bright. It goes back and forth and has been doing so for a couple weeks now. Anyways, any ideas guys???

So I'm guessing you mean the coolant level light? Top it off, keep an eye out for leaks and on your temp gauge. Lights dimming like that sounds like alternator. Do your headlights do the same thing? Do they get brighter if you rev the engine up a bit?

So coolant huh...got it... Here's a dumb question....how do you top it off? I mean, do you keep the car on running at a warm temperature and then add the fluid or keep it off and then add it and then turn it back on or what? Sorry for the newbie question...

Re: House light on dash
Take the radiator cap off when teh car is off so you don't get burned, turn engine on and pour coolant in. When it is full when the engine is on and warm, you are good. Some may overflow into the white overflow tank...that is ok. Put cap back on.

The house one in washer fluid. It happens to me when I'm turning hard.

Re: House light on dash
It's your rear washer fluid.

Re: House light on dash
No, Vert got it...it was the coolant. I topped off the reserve tank and took it for a test drive and everything's fine now.
Here's the thing though...it was dark and I couldn't see where the fluid inside the tank was so I just kept filling until I could see the fluid close to the top because I figured any excess would come out through the long hose which goes down to the bottom of the car. However, even after I took it for a drive about 15 minutes, I came back and checked the level and the same amount of fluid was still there. I know we're not supposed to overfill but do you guys think there would be any bad "side effects" from it? Other than that, I think I might have found the leak. There was a hose that was loose and I saw coolant around the area. I just don't know if the coolant was from my spills I made or an actual leak. At any rate, I just tightened it for now and will just keep a close eye on it the next couple of days. Thanks for the help guys.
